Ok what should I order?  I've already got a Service Grade SA and still waiting on the Correct Grade(5 months and still waiting).  I was thinking about getting a Service Grade HRA for this order.  Or would another Springfield be better?

Also ordering a Service Grade M1 Carbine but not sure if any available are better than the other.  I had originally picked a Saginaw SG but I don't know M1 Carbines.

Get one of everything!

But seriously, I'd go with the HRA since you already have a Springfield. So far I only have one M1 and it is a Service Grade HRA that performs flawlessly so I think you'll be happy with one. As for M1 Carbines... I have no advice cause I don't know much about them yet.

Ask for a high serial numbered HRA.  These are among the best Garands ever made, and most saw little use.  As far as carbines go, most agree that Underwood barrels are the most accurate.  Buy them now, the days of CMP are numbered.

I just sent in another order for the Springfield Special....maybe a little expensive, but I think it will be worth the wait. Still waiting on my limit of ammo.

Was at the North store today...they said they were shipping orders dated 2/22/09....all rack grade M1's in the store along with 100's of carbines...they said they had everything in stock in Anniston, just not enough people to to fill the orders. I am ordering 22lr today, should be here in 90 days....

Are you saying there's no service grade M1s in the North Store?

None in the North or South store, per Orest.

Agreed, I got a HRA from 1955 and it looked new, didn't even have wear marks in the action. I have been thinking about getting a Springfield though.

Sounds like an HRA.   What about the M1 Carbine though?

On the carbine, you almost can't go wrong.  They aren't match rifles, they are carbines––a lot more fun to shoot than almost anything else out there.  Get an Inland or an Underwood or any of the other brands presently available.  The CMP also has USGI magazines for $12 and ammo.  Be aware that .30 carbine ammo is presently hard to find, you may be frustrated when it arrives if you don't have anything to shoot out of it.  Just pick one and be happy with it.  I went with an Inland and it's a hell of a lot of fun.

What's Orest?

Where did you find this out?
I'm looking to take the trip and the CMP site is showing them as available.

I see from other posts that there are no service or correct grades at either store. Is this for good, or temporary?

Check the forums on CMP's website including "Ask Orest".  It's best to call the North Store before going to see what they have in stock.

They haven't had Service grades in the North Store for over 2 months according to the counter guys. CMP has them but can't get them to the stores. Their orders (of all types. ammo, etc) went from 5k a month to 15K after the election. They are at least 90 days out to ship. They went from 8 people in the armory to over 20...and you thought the AR was tough to get. If you want a carbine they have a good selection, if you want an M1 you won't find much of a selection. Ths was as of 5/21
