Hello,
I recently received my C&R and I'm looking to get started collecting milsurps so I'm looking for some advice on where to start. I currently own the following all purchased prior to getting my C&R: 2 - Mosin 91/30 Hex, a '33 and a '27 VZ 24 - scrubbed crest 2 - CZ 82's FEG PA63 I'm looking to add to my collection, but to be honest, I am not that knowledgeable on milsurps yet... I am also low on funds right now, so I am looking for advice from experienced collectors on what to get next and where to buy? Preferably some advice on what the best, or at least good deals are going right now on milsurps. I would love to have a Garand, M-1, etc, but the funds won't be there for another year or so. So what out there should I be looking at right now as my next set of purchases? I missed out on some of AIM's latest deals... Is there someone out there with a supply of decent valued C&R's I should be checking out? Let me know your thoughts as I read and learn more on the forums. Thanks! |

M39 from SOG, they still have them left amazingly. They only made 100,000 and they are sweet Rifles, and it wont break the bank like a m1 or a m1 carbine would.

Welcome!
First and foremost, start sending copies of your C&R license (signed of course) out to the big dealers like aimsurplus, classicarms, century, centerfire systems, jgsales, etc. Also send some copies to the main gun parts dealers like midwayusa, brownells, numrich gun parts. You will get discounts from those parts dealers. Guns wise - if you are looking for the most reasonably priced M1 garand, I would look to the Civilian Marksmanship Program (thecmp.org I think it is). If you meet their requirements, you can order a garand from them at a very reasonable price. You have one of the steps down by having your C&R, but you will have to join a "shooting organization" like the Garand Collectors Association, or some other local shooting group that is known/verified by the CMP. All the info is on their site. Right now a field grade Springfield would run you about 550 shipped. If you live close to Ohio or Alabama - you could even drive to their retail stores and pick one out by hand - need the same paperwork requirements though. You have several great examples it sounds like already. You could look into getting an RC k98 (in the 400 range), garand (550 range cmp, 650-1000 open market), k31 (300 range), nagant pistol (100 range), tokarev pistol (200 range), enfield (250 range), P38/P1 pistol (300 range), finnish m39 (300 range), and there are many many many more! |

Thanks for all the great feedback! I have submitted my C&R to Aim, Century, SOG, JG, and Centerfire so far. SOG had me setup in minutes and I am taking the advice on the M39, so I'll definitely post some photos once I receive it.
Keep the advice coming. I plan to try and order a new gun once a month as I can put a few hundred dollars into the budget about every four weeks right now. I'll look into the CMP program for Garands as they really intrigue me. That could be in play when the next bonus comes around at summertime. I appreciate all the help, as I have a lot to learn when it comes to collecting. Regards! |

I got my m39 VKT from SOG last october... paid the 10$ hand pick and received a 1944 vkt the gun looked unissued. Bore was like new... great gun. |

I would look into a K31 from SimpsonsLTD. You will not find better customer service and they put their hands on the gun you are calling about and answer any questions about it right then and there. You can't find a better source for high quality Swiss rifles worthy of collecting.
If you have your mind set on a Garand I would not go through anyone but the CMP like others have said. If you can I would hold out for a Correct grade if looking for a cleaner example. |

+1 on the M39. I'm also very fond of the Enfield, particularly, the No.4. Everybody should own at least one.
Beyond that, don't overlook the K98, MAS36 and Arisaka Type 99. However, keep in mind that, for the price of two or three of the guns already mentioned, you could have your Garand. |
