I was recently given a Century G3 for Christmas. I am now acutely aware that I have spent too much time in the AR-15 world - I don't know a whole lot about these. After dealing with a bad weld in the cocking tube, this thing shoots very reliably (except for one particular magazine) and groups pretty well. I'm starting to grow pretty fond of it. Now I have some questions:

1. Maybe I'm still too much an AR-guy, but I'm interested in RAS-type forearms and flat-top options. Can I please get some info and/or links? Maybe even opinions and experiences?
2. I did find a Federal receiver with an integrated M1913 rail!! But the receiver looks like it does not include the cocking tube. My Century appears to be one unit - the receiver and cocking tube are not two peices. Am I out of luck, or am I just going to have to get the receiver plus the tube?
3. If I do manage to get this thing a flat-top, what iron sight options are there for a G3?
4. I feel the stock is a tad long. What alternatives do you guys like? I wouldn't mind a collapsing, if it doesn't violate BATF. Still, just a shorter or adjustable stock of some kind would be nice.

Thanks in advance for any input!

SIEGE,

don't mean to hijack your post but I was looking into getting a G3 after the AWB hopefully expires.
How much did yours cost?

Sorry for not having any answers to your questions..... except maybe #4. I used to shoot a HK G3 A4 (collapsing stock). If memory serves me right it was a little shorter compared to the regular stock. However, right now the BATFE won't like you too much if you get one of those. Ah well, September is just around the corner...

Have fun shooting,

Unlike ARs, the receiver on Hk9- series weapons IS the firearm.  You'd be better off getting a quality reciever and building from parts than to start than tear down your properly functioning rifle and swapping your Century parts onto a different reciever.  Building an HK is probably way beyond the average hobbyist, nothing like a FAL.

There are several mounts that will put a sight platform up there instead of swapping the rec.

Sorry I can't be more specific, my stuff is all factory HK, no complaints, other than I can't seem to find a bargain.

Thanks for the info, Citadel. I suspected as much.

LRDrvr, it was a gift so the in-laws were not specific on price. However, he did say that it was under $300. He always seems to be at the right place at the right time for gun deals.

For the record, this thing shoots the Portuguese battle-pack ammo flawlessly. It groups better than I expected. I actually did find a link for a site that had a very low-mounting section of rail. I think I'll just slap an ACOG on there and be done with it.

I need to win the lottery.
