I'm not sure if this is the right place but it sure is a noteworthy clip.

That was pretty funny watching him just shaking at the end, imaging the tingling sensation you would have after doing that!

Why did the military stop using the M60 and go to the 240?

Because the M60 we had was not the one you see in the video and was utter trash. The clip that holds the whole trigger/pistol grip assembly... seriously who the hell thought that was a good idea?!

Wow,  I wonder if my 240B could have done that?

We still use the MK 43 in the USN.  The 240 is a better weapon in my opinion however.  I like the MK 46 and 48 which are variations of the SAW.

I can't see anyone lugging a 850 round belt of 7.62 but it is impressive.

God bless you for your service!

That one is a MK43 Mod 1 that has newly designed parts by STS and US Ordnance. It has a custom made barrel that is thicker than a regular one to withstand the 850rd continuous dump. They said the regular barrels on the M60 and M240 would have heated up to the point that they would droop and be a safety hazard after that many rounds.

Mean Rounds Before Stoppage of the old M60s was 800, so STS did 850 in 1 burst to demonstrate that the MK43 was superior to the old models. They did that demo after shooting thousands of rounds throughout the day without breaking it down for cleaning.

Pretty impressive, but the DOD already canned the M60 in favor of the M240 and MK48. Small Arms Review had an article on that gun and demonstration a couple issues back.

Here's an even better vid! An E4 fired to lock-up....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OD2hV8uCkQM

The E4 is a superior 7.62 for mobile use, the 240 is to damn big and heavy...

Nice!  A couple of my buddies have M60's, one is the regular Grunt-Edition, and the other has a shorty barrel like that one.  I've done 100 round dumps and its awesome, but that is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy cooler.

Bullshit.

A gun barrel cannot become so hot that it will droop under its own weight.

My son bought me some trigger time on the Scottsdale Gun Club's E4 for my last birthday. Gun performed flawlessly. A world of difference between that and the "pig" from my Army days. U.S. Ordnance really knows what they are doing.
