Hey guys just noticed when cleaning my GSG5 rifle today that I seem to have some cracking on a part and don't see in mentioned in either the sticky or on the first few pages of topics.

The gun has aprox. 3-400 rnds of CCI minimags through it, and I have had no problems what-so-ever with it, but noticed what appears to be some pretty severe cracking on this one piece (checked for all the other mentioned cracks and none could be found).

The first pic shows the front of the piece, on the right bottom corner of the circle thing you can notice some metal appears to be missing, and this is where its cracked.
The second pic shows the cracking.

So
A. What is the name for it?
B. Can I get a replacement fairly easy without having to send the rifle back (as its a 10 second fix)
C. What to do to avoid this in the future?
D. Is this a common/known problem?
E. Pie

Thanks

What you have there is called the bolt stopper, bolt carrier stop block, or "breech-fixing-part" (manual). Depends where you look.
The wear you see could be caused by the bolt spring-rods, as they extend during the back-and-forth cycling of the bolt, during firing.   They extend over that area on both sides.

Or,  It could be just a flaw in the manufacture of the part.  Interesting. Look at the part ,and the bolt spring-rod for that side,  and see if  they show contact marks or scraping.

You can get it replaced by emailing Ray at ATI and sending a pic, probably.

I don't know if  your part is a bad casting, loose during operation, or if there is something going on with your spring-rods.   But, the more I look at your pic, I think the block was manufactured like that, because the flaw is deep in the corner groove.

Did you disassemble your bolt frame for screw lock-tightening?  I wonder if spring-rods in backwards would do that?   The slotted-end of the spring-rods should be facing out and visible when the gun is cocked......

Had you Loctite'd the screw?  Although it has a star-lock washer, I've found that it will still back-out.  The cracking appears to be in the place where a majority of the recoil stresses would be if the mounting screw was at all loose.

that screw always wiggles loose on me
i dont lock tite it though because you have to take it out everytime to clean it

i would probably put a little coat of epoxy or JB weld on it and sand it down smooth

Have you noticed that the capt512's part and V1Vr's part are different?
capt512, is your GSG a Gen 1 by any chance?
V1Vr's part has a radius'd curve in the area that broke, perhaps that showed up as a stress area and GSG changed the design to add more metal and spread out the stress.

Very good eye.   I just realized the problem with his is manufacturing.   The right-angle cuts into the shoulder of his block are actually deep enough that they cut into the washer recess  on the face of the block, where there is no metal.

Mine, is not cut so deep and the corners of the shoulder are rounded and further away from the washer recess.

BTW I just checked mine, it has the square cut sides and it has the same chunk missing out of it, probobly from day one. Mine is a Gen II.

Have contacted ATI via email, still waiting on response, will call them tommorow about it.

Am not sure if the gun is a Gen1 or 2, I'm not on the GSG section of the forum often so am not sure how to even check??

There's pics in the sticky threads that show the difference between the gen's. Once you know what to look for, it's a piece of cake to tell them apart.
