So I just aquired an Enfield yesterday and its my first.  I will post pics don't worry, I am at work right now though.

I am looking for information on ammo.

What to get, What to avoid, Where to get it.

Thanks for your help.

I use Wolf Gold in both of mine. It's brass-cased, well-made (by Prvi), and not horribly expensive. Hot Shot/Prvi ammunition is the exact same thing in a different box.

You can sometimes find 1920's-1930's UK surplus around. It's corrosive, however, it does shoot reasonably well. Some duds should be expected due to age and improper storage.

POF .303 ammunition has a bad reputation. It's cheap, but also corrosive and many folks have reported frequent hangfires with it.

+1 on the hang fires. I have used surplus UK with good outcomes, but the POF is garbage.

Follow this link, this will give you a list of UK manufacturers and their head stamps.

I buy mine from gunshows. I'll usually pick up a couple of boxes of .303 whenever I go. I usually pay about $15/20. Sadly, that's "reasonable" for .303 these days.

Are you into Enfields very much?

I'm more of a generic "military surplus nut" than anything else, but I do happen to like the Lee-Enfield, and I own two of them.

I was just wondering 'cause mine has all sorts of stamping on the stock that i can't identify.  Do you know of any good places that could help me decode this stuff?

This is pretty common with Enfields. Inspection stamps, original manufacturer stamps, unit markings, etc. could all be present on the stock. Some of them are known and identifiable, some of them aren't. Metal parts often have many stampings as well; particularly the barrel and receiver.

Post pictures if you can - another good place would be the Lee-Enfield forum over at Gunboard's.

I've got some friends over at G-Boards that I have to run this by too.

I have been in the process of planning a wedding and moving so the pics are slow in coming.  They will help though.
