Hey guys and gals,
This is my first forum post on these forums even though I have been stalking them for years. Until now I really haven't had the time or funds to invest into an AR. I have selected to build an SBR as my first build, it will be for home defense, range fun, teaching family gun safety and any SHTF situations. I do have some knowledge of the platform from my time in the service, so not all of this will be over my head. My first question or concern is compatibility. I have put together a list of equipment I sought out to put on my SBR. I just want to make sure everything is compatible such as the gas block / rail i want to use. Gas length for SBR etc.. Upper: LMT 10.5" Chrome Lined 1:7" Twist 5.56 - http://www.lmtstore.com/monolithic-rail-platforms-mrp-cqb/105-upper-receiver-assembly-with-flash-suppressor.html Lower: Defender Lower with SOPMOD Stock - http://www.lmtstore.com/lower-halves/defender-lower-with-sopmod-stock-and-standard-trigger-tan.html Rail: MK18 RIS II 9.55" - https://danieldefense.com/mk18-rail-interface-system-ii-ris-ii-1100.html Block: DD MK12 Gas Block - https://danieldefense.com/components-parts/mk12-low-profile-gas-block.html Suppressor: KAC QDSS - http://www.knightarmco.com/5-56-rifle-suppressors/ Optic: Trijicon SRS - https://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products/product1.php?id=SRS I know I won't be purchasing these straight from the dealer as I know I can prolly score a better deal on some of the others sites floating around here. These compatible? Block? Suppressor? Does suppressor need an A2? Will this provide me with a quality rifle? I have considered swapping the upper with a BCM and the lower with a Spikes for cost reasons Any suggestions would be appreciated |

Are you planning on efiling that lower? It looks like you are trying to build an MK18 clone.
My suggestion to you is just form 4 a DD MK18. Yeah it will take longer than efiling but you're buying a suppressor also so you are going to have to wait regardless. Also the resale value will be a lot higher if you ever need cash or plan to sell it down the road. Plus you wont need to do any gunsmithing. |
|
I honestly don't know yet, I was going to do some more research and see what the easiest route was, though I know i will be waiting a while.
I do know I would rather build this myself though, it's a process I would like to do and things I want to know. Cheaper anyhow |

Since you posted in that thread I assume you have some interest in going that way. Based on that here is my suggestions Upper: LMT is great but if you want an accurate clone that .2" of barrel will drive you nuts eventually. Also you're going to toss a bunch of parts off that upper, so why pay more for what you won't use? Buy a 14.5" Colt government barrel for $200~250, send it to Adco to get cut to 10.3 for $65 and dimple for the gas block - $20, a Colt assembled upper is $170 from Brownell's so for $450~$500 you've got the most "clone correct" upper possible. Lower: The SOPMOD they sell now is the second generation and you'll be searching for a first gen eventually. Colt lowers will get you more clone points Heck now I think of it I'd just buy one of those new stripped Colt 6920's as a base rifle.
Rail: Best of luck to you here Suppressor: good choice, it comes with the hider so don't worry about that Optic: Even as a non-clone rifle I'm going to recommend you skip on the SRS. Look at an EXPS for a clone correct option. Hope this helps |

Yes, I'm trying to build it as close to mk18 spec as possible, but being a perfect clone is really not a big deal. gotta utilize that search button I guess, find out what's decently close to spec. Read the first post of the MK18 thread and then about the last 100 pages and you should be up to speed. Here are some links that you might want for parts Taupe front sight grab it now or you'll have to wait another month or two for the restock Stripped Colt 6920's great way to start a CQBR build Grab a gen 1 B5 SOPMOD for 85 here B5 system is a clone correct contractor New ITI model Tangodown grip most places only stock the Surefire model, this is the cheapest I've ever found these. Rear sling mount and forward mount That should be a good start |
| Yes, stripped lowers are sold but with a new Colt 6920 available soon for 750 or so its hard to recommend buying just a lower; stripped or complete. |

Check EE for good deals, i found my Ris Rail for half the cost of a new one and it looked brand new. |

economical to snag a Colt complete 14.5 upper and chop it or just the barrel? I just picked up a 14.5" barrel for $225, add $170 if you buy an assembled upper receiver to go with it and you're at $395, +$40 if you want a Colt gas tube so if you can grab a complete upper at $450 or less you're ahead DSG is taking preorders on the OEM 6920's https://dsgarms.com/cole6920-oem1 |
