Wife and I have been in the new house for about 6 months now.
Had a rep from Vivint stop by. Really liked their cellular-based security system. They installed it in about 2 hours. I had the app on my Android phone and ipad controlling the whole setup about 15minutes later. Also replaced our two thermostats with theirs so I can control my house temp, even while away. Replaced the deadbolt with one controlled by the system. I can use my cellphone to let a neighbor/ family member in from across the country. Included one wireless indoor camera, Imay install a few more later. Very happy with the whole shebang. |

It's a simple system to self maintain if need be and there are independent monitoring options as well. Vivint comes with a contract and the rates are not so great. After the contract is up you can go to a different monitoring service but by that time you have paid for the "free" alarm system. I'd be interested in knowing if Vivint will release the install codes for their systems so you can swap monitoring services, or if this is even a potential issue? |

Quoted: I'll find out, but lots of large alarm companies lock their panels out so they cannot be reprogrammed to another central station. That or some even use proprietary equipment that only they can use.Quoted: ![]() It's a simple system to self maintain if need be and there are independent monitoring options as well. Quoted: We put in a video system for our State Police years ago with huge zoom lenses. They always got the pan motor locked on a window of a large breasted woman who undressed with the shades open.Scary to think someone in a call center could unlock your front door, turn down your AC, or see what you are doing in your own home. Sure, there are "corporate policies" telling the call center tech bored at 3am not to do it, but who is stopping him? |
