| I've heard that some people don't like the new M1s from Springfield. Why, whats wrong with them? |
|
I'd be willing to guess that most of the problems are similar to the ones associated with Springfield's M1A line (such as potentially sub-par extractors, reciever heel gap, etc.). Granted, this is only conjecture on my part, maybe there's a whole different set of problems for their M1s. I've often wondered if Springfield's new M1 copys compare to the originals or not. |

The new ones are made with used, GI parts kits put on cast recievers that may or may not be in spec. The real problem is that some of the GI parts they use are really worn out. I have seen it with my own eyes. One new SA Inc M1 had an op-rod with a guide tab that was almost worn all the way down. It appears that they really dont check the parts all that well, and just put them together. Another issue is that you are paying big $$$ for something that isnt even an authentic M1 with no historical value. A much cheaper CMP M1 was in the hands of a soldier at one time(or at least sitting in an Army Depot! |
You would be surprised how many people dont know that the SA Inc of today is not the same thing as the govt. run Springfield. I have heard guys mention that their new garands were made for the govt. but left in storage or some other BS is quite common, like SA is making new garands for the military and these are real GI garands. When you try to tell them that their M1 is a reproduction or that SA Inc is not the original one, they get all butt-hurt and pissy. SA Inc is basically banking on the fact that most of the gun buying public is ill-informed and does not know about the CMP or the true nature of the M1 they make and how it is different than a USGI M1. |
