What is best to use to remove all oil from the barrel before I refinish it?

I use acetone. You just want to make sure that whatever you use doesn't leave a residue.

I hear carb cleaner leaves behind an light oil.

I dump acetone and toulene (sp?) into my spray gun and spray the part down real well. That's the same stuff that duracoat sells as "Tru-strip"
