Hi
I want to buy a shotgun, but I have never used one.
I went to the store and looked around and saw one that caught my attention.
Mossberg 88. Its a pump action with a long barrel. $187.00
I like it, the guy behind the counter was saying that its a great gun just like the 500 model.
I dont know. I dont know anything about shotguns. I want to use it mainly for hunting and home defense.
Should i get it or not?

Does it have removable choke tubes? If not, I wouldn't get it because part of your use for the shotgun is hunting. You need to be able to change the size of the shot pattern.

Edit: You can probably find a used Mossberg 500 for the same or lower price that takes choke tubes. This will allow you to have more versatility with hunting. For Home Defense, you will want a shorter barrel though so it is easier to maneuver through your home. You can pick up a second 18"-20" barrel for around $100 that will work great for HD.

The Maverick 88 is similiar to a Mossberg 500 but not the same, the safeties are different, and Mossberg 500s are made in the US, where I believe most of the parts on the 88 are made in China or Mexico. The parts are just not as precise or as good of quality, but they do work just fine. Also the stock and foregrip are really cheap plastic, I have seen many cave in or break.
