I recently ordered a G1 kit that should be here soon.  Now, a distributor has new manufacture / new import Imbel receivers that are being advertisted as for repair/replacement only.  If we can't use one of these imported receivers, are we only to use a US made receiver?  Or are we not supposed to build these kits into rifles?  I understand the 7 US parts, but is the receiver required to be one of the 7?

If so, which US receiver do you guys recomend.

Thanks.

I understand that the end-user can build any kit into a rifle, keeping all of the other parts rules, etc.  You are free to use either a US or imported receiver.  The IMBEL receivers are foreign made, and therefore do not count as a US part.

As for a receiver recommendation, if you want the authentic look, buy a Type 1 receiver.  You can get a Dan Coonan Type 1 for ~$200 from FAC.  Mostly good news about the Coonan's, but some folks have had problems.  I have two, and I have found no show stoppers yet.  Stay away from Entreprise.  They can be very trouble prone.  Top of the list is DSA - very pricy.  DC or DSA (or Entreprise) both count as a US part.  Or feel free to go with the IMBEL.  Again, they are to be had for ~$200 from a number of sources.

You will find the G-1 to be problematic in the gas system, since they tend to be well worn in this area.  There are ways to get them to run.  Some of these solutions include (1) enlarging the gas port (2) new gas piston (3) new gas tube (4) soldering the gas tube.  A good polishing of the chamber always helps.  Check in with the FALFiles when you get to building it.

About using a Imbel Reciever,(I just had to send back my Gear logo Imbel reciever to FAC)..I had a Number of manufactures refuse to build my Rifle..I was told that the BATF is checking any Imbel Rec.dated 2002/2003,and finding out where they are going. If you have had a rifle built out of 1 of those 2-year Imbels,BATF will track it down, and confiscate your New FAL,but have been good enough to allow the removal of your KIT,..I spoke to the head man at FAC,and at the Gun Room at SARCO,the Tech.at SARCO told me,(send in your 2003,and I will send you 1 of the Preban recievers I have,so you can get your FAL built, but it is alot more $$$ than FAC sold them for..$269+Shp+Hnd.(+ SARCO would only give me $150 in return)..,came to right at $300.From what I was told at BATF Compliance, they will be hunting down the 2002/2003,out of Country rec.,and confiscating the Built weapons,(UNLESS YOU HAVE A REPLACEMENT YOU SENT IN,OR 1 AT HOME,If you can find a damaged FAL rec.,and want to use a GL Imbel, that's the way you will have to go..I bought a Enterprise Arms 03 rec,I have had a couple of them, they are NOW hardened to Rockwell 45,(harder than Imbel's),and they are Totally hardened, not just up front..PLUS,(THEY HAVE A LIFETIME WARRENTY)my other 2-FAL's are an 2000 Imbel Rec.,Gear logo, and a 01 DSA..This is NO JOKE,check it out!!!

That's what I thought.  I guess I'm looking at the Coonan, the Entreprise or the Century to build on.  What do you guys think?

BS, IMO.  In order to get their form 6's approved, the importers signed an affadavit not to use the barrels or receivers to build new guns.  Provided your build is otherwise legal (i.e., no more than 10 imported parts, no thread barrel, F/S, folding stock, etc), there is nothing against the law about using these receivers for new builds.  The actual importers can't do it per the agreement they signed, but you (or your gunsmith) didn't sign any such agreement.

This is the first I've ever heard of any gunsmith refusing the build on one of these receivers.  ARS, IGF, Inrange, all don't seem to have a problem with it.  I've certainly not heard of any confiscations - if that was the case, talk at falfiles would have been all over it.

SARCO told you what they did because they want you to buy their "preban" receiver.  The importers are pasting "for use as replacement parts only" all over their ads because they are likely required to do it per their aggreement and as a CYA action.  I challenge anyone to show me the law where using these in a build would be illegal, which is the only thing that would lead to confiscation.

As far as the parts count - don't think of the number of US made parts to replace, but rather think of the maximum number of imported parts you can have, which is no more than 10.  Much easier that way.   The receiver is just another "part", doesn't count any more or less towards the part count than, say, a trigger.

Now I'm totaly confused.  AZEX builds their rifles for resale with Imbel receivers and Imbel kits.  How do they legally do this.  It makes sense if they buy the receivers from a US wholesaler and are not the importers themselves.  Otherwise every rifle they build and sell would be illegal, right?  So it seems that the third party, the end buyer, (not the manufacter or importer) can leagally build the receiver into a rifle, right?

Buy an IMBEL receiver.  They are much better quality than and Enterprise, regardless what kula says.

Hunting down and confiscating our receivers?

BTW, IMBELS aren't U.S. made but buy one anyway.  Unless you plan to spend the big money on a DSA receiver.
