I just picked up my 1st ever Fal. Its a ban era L1A1. Since its a ban era gun I'm going to have the barrel re threaded . My research has lend me to that I need the following parts in order to attach a L1A1 flash hider to the barrel once its has been re threaded. Please me let me know If I'm wrong or I need more or different parts etc.
1 L1A1 Flash hider 1 Positioning washer 1 L1A1 Flash Hider Retaining Pin 1 L1A1 Flash Hider key. Thanks Jeepva |

Much smarter members will chime in, but I'm interested.... It is a Century Sporterized version? I have one also. I went WECSOG with my flash hider installation, just because it has no real collector value, and since Century cut off a few inches of barrel anyway.
Thanks to members here I ended up with a correct furniture set - don't be afraid to cut off the thumbole stock if it has one. It's an easy fix and definitely worth it to get a usable and correct looking stock. The thickness of the thumbhole stock on mine made the safety lever impossible to operate. I've ordered a railed top cover for mine. I'm kind of 'meh' on the looks of those, but want to shoot it more and have a red dot lying around that I want to put on it. and... PICS man!! |

Who ever is threading the barrel needs to be familiar with FALs. A keyway will also need to be cut on the underside of the barrel.
I did one several years ago using a thread alignment tool and a Dremel to cut the slot. It worked out that time, but on my second build, I sent the barrel to one of the smiths from the FALfiles. Moses, IIRC. |

The FAL barrel is threaded in a very odd pitch - 9/16x24 LEFT hand thread.
First question, do you WANT to limit yourself to FAL muzzle adapters? There is no reason you can't have it threaded 9/16x24 RIGHT hand thread, which opens up a whole new realm of possibilities in flash hiders. There are also many flash hiders that do a much better job than the original FAL FH's. We made a 9/16x24LH to 5/8x24RH adapter for a while, sold out of them, will probably make some more at a later date. That said, you really should look into having it done professionally by someone who knows crowning, not just anyone who has the die. There's a whole thread on another forum about increasing accuracy by PROPERLY crowning the FAL barrel - some say accuracy is better if you don't angle the crown, some say it doesn't matter. Interesting read. As for stock adapters, we're manufacturing the adapter that lets you put an ACR Bushmaster stock on your FAL. I HIGHLY recommend it. We have more changes in store, too. Since your weapon has no real collectible value beyond it being a FAL (which is an awesome weapon just in and of itself), you might think about modifying it a bit. Good luck! |

Thanks for the input everybody. The rifle already has a correct L1A1 stock no thumb hole. I'm thinking at this point of just putting the standard flash hider on it. I have always liked the way the traditional fal has looked. The rifle has been cut to take the metric mags vs the inch mags. So that's a plus as well.I just mainly bought it to mess around with and shoot the shit out of it and see if I like it before getting something better. Was always an AR guy then I got bored with them and have really become a big AK guy now. So just trying to test the waters.
