Well after looking at the pictures I decided I want a CAN for my AR but don't know anything about them, the laws, prices, where to get them from, etc. Can someone point me in the right direction. Thanks. |

Where in VA are you??? might be able to help you out with pointing you to a dealer... As far as which goes first---"buy" supressor then you complete the paperwork...this sometimes brings up the question of what if I can't get CLEO sign-off?? Check VA HTF tacked threads for if CLEO will sign-off (dealer can assist with this info also---they usually know who will sign where...) of course you can also go the trust/corp route...... As far as .223 suppressor and .22---yes you can use a .223 suppressor on a .22 BUT .22 is a "dirty" round and will fill up your high dollar .223 suppressor---so most buy seperate suppressors (my paperwork should be approved anyday for a .22 and I'll eventually get a .223 suppressor)....lots of good info on the web for suppressors---read and ask away!!! Edit to add: .22 vs .223----also most better .223 suppressor now come with different mounts then just plain thread on... |

You buy the can first at your local Class 3 dealer, then send off the paperwork (your dealer will help you with this). A .223 can will work on a .22lr, but a .22lr can will not work on a .223 (KB!). That being said, .22 cans are optimized for the .22lr and are very light weight (.223 cans are 4-5x heavier, which would get really annoying on a light-weight .22lr rifle or pistol). Also, there is some concern that lead .22 bullets can junk-up a .223 can as they are very dirty, and lead is very hard to remove. All this goes to say, "get both" in true arfcom fashion .
