Just completed my L1A1 build on a Coonan inch cut receiver.
I had been sitting on a nearly mint Enfield kit for nearly two years waiting for the Coonan group buy on the Falfiles to pan out. Finally got the rifle timed, head-spaced, assembled and refinished in Cerakote, member "myfakename" helped a tiny, tiny bit
The results are pretty damn nice. this is my second L1A1 and I'm definitely a sucker for the British rifles. I'm going to challenge my building assistant to  reenact the Falklands War. He has an Argie, and me two SLR's. May the best man win!
ETA, Thunbprint in photo four isn't a defect in the finish but just an oily fingerprint. everything is super tight from the coating and is slathered in oil as a result. Beater eBay stock set will be replaced soon with an Ironwood Design set.

very cool. I prefer the poly over the wood on the Brits for some reason. When do you take it for it's 1st range trip?

I got one of those too.  I was disappointed with the engraving but the rest of it looked okay. Glad to have a Brit cut receiver.

Very nice,   looks authentic.

Oh, you might want to switch your pivot pin around so that the "tails" are on the other side so you don't cut your hand yanking the charging handle.

Congrats on bringing another piece of history back to life !!

Because when you really think about that is what we are doing.

She looks great.

I got my first L1A1 early this year and I love it.
It's an Enfield British kit also.

When you get the wood furniture on her please post a pic.

I've kicked around the idea of installing some new wood on mine also.
I have the synthetic furniture on mine as well.

I got mines also....but dealing with a feeding issue on it.

It shoots great but has a tiny feeding issue.

It shot nicely using Chinese norinco ammo.

What kind of malfunctions are you experiencing? I haven't shot mine yet and I'm holding my breath that I won't have any problems cycling.

Depending on the type of malfunction, the fix could be as simple as turning up or down the gas regulator.

I had to close down my gas regulator when I changed brands of ammo last time out, then it ran fine.

Too much gas can cause trouble as well.

Mines functions at 2 sadly.....My Aussie Lithgow L1A1 functions at 5 and the StG58 on a DSA receiver type 1 functions fine at 6.

It is jamming on the left side due to the feedramp and it jumps a notch from the gap going from an inch magazine but it functions fine on a metric magazine.

One must remember that the receiver started life as a type 3 metric so they are going from there.

The feedramp angle is almost there but wrong.

My builder said he can polish it up some more to make it better but I am debating sending it to Coonan and see if they can do something about it.

I've had several L1A1 owners say using the polymer Moses mag in there L1A1's cured all failures to feed.

willing to try a moses mag.

I finally got mine to the range today and had the exact same malfunction. The rifle ran like a cat on fire with metric mags but had a 25% FTF rate with inch mags.
WTF is up with that??

It is because it was made from a Type 3 metric receiver.

Strangely, I fired mines again today and it went bag everytime just fine now with two mags of surplus LC 147gr.

I went from number 2 to number 4 and its shooting brass 21 feet away so I have to adjust and test again tomorrow maybe.

But I polished the feedramps a bit and I may polish it some more.

Is yours hitting on the left side feedramp?

Moses FAL mag seems to have cured alot of peoples coonan feed issue.

It hung up about 75% of the time on the left side feed ramp.  Did polishing the ramp help?

yep correct....polishing it helped immensely.

Do you have pics of the feed ramps, before and after the polishing?

no before...just after...

I shared it on FAL files....

I'm Rudolf on there..being My name is Rudolf Jozsef.

Very happy now with mines...

Shot some old M80 LC stuff and it ran fine now with metric and inch mags.

just some polishing of the feedramps and all is good.

Sweet rifle. I had purchased a nice looking rifle from 29erSavoy, when i got it the rifle would do nothing but jam. I wind up just pretty much giving it away. I always loved the look of the L1A1. maybe one day I will find an original one.
