Could anyone that has FGMM 175 gr Match and or M118 ammo and who also owns a Hornady Comparator and use the 308 insert and also the headspace 400 Diameter Bushing and measure the ogive OCL and the case shoulder for me
I load for a bolt gun and size the brass to my chamber. I now have a sweettt LR308 that I built and just need the specs on the ammo listed above. I know it will differ some what from my manuals. I just want to size the brass to their specs and seat the bullets to their ogive. thanks Mack |

Not the answer to your question, but why not start at mag length for the COAL? You're limited by seating depth due to the mags (unless you single feed which defeats the purpose of an auto loader). 2.800-2.810 should be a nice starting point. If you're worried about meplat inconsistencies you can measure several with a COAL of approximately 2.800 to find the average ogive measurement.
Just a thought |

I only have FGMM 168gr ammo here, but I do have the tools and plenty of 175s.
The 168s are typically loaded to between 2.800" and 2.810", so that's where I'd figure the 175s are seated to. As far as their headspacing goes, I get 1.625" for three of the 168 FGMM (older Blue/White box stuff) that I just measured for you. Again, I would think that this is typical for the current FGMM 175s. Probably a bit close to the SAAMI minimum. Before you set up your sizing die, you'll want to shoot some factory ammo through the rifle and measure headspace, so you know what your chamber's doing. Then set your die to bump back the shoulders, between .002" and .004". Chris |

To get the correct HS for my bolt guns I anneal the brass size it and fire. By annealing I pretty much get a accurate idea of what my chamber is on my bolt guns and then set the shoulder back 2 1000th I also turn the necks, uniform primer pocket and flash holes when I shoot the bolt gun at 600 and 1000 yds matches. I just wanted the ocl of a FGMM and M118 LR factory loaded rd along with what the case shoulder I do not have any factory loads and I know these shoot really good in semi autos at what they are sized at and just wanted to know that's all. So does anyone have any of these rds at the bullet weight I asked for to measure for me. PLease Thanks for the info above. Thanks jcwallace84 that's what I wanted. I really apperciated it. Mack |
