I cant tell you if it's good but I wouldn't have opened it at all unless I planned on for sure loading it up. It was sealed that long why open it up if you aren't going to use it for sure? Well... I did say that I plan to load a few rounds and test them. I was actually looking for opinions if it was a wise idea or not. Also. Don't know why the pic is upside down. Hmm |

Consensus on the internet is that as long as the powder was stored dry and the granules are the correct size (no clumping) it should be okay to use.
Just remember, black powder is loaded by volume, not weight, and your cases need to be full and the charge slightly compressed. An air gap in the case means you have a pipe bomb, not a cartridge. |

Quoted: I think you mean 3F, 3F black powder is commonly used in pistols and black powder rifles under 50 caliber, I used 3F in my pistols and 45 cal percussion rifle. I experimented with a little 2F but liked 3F better. This can dates from the late 60's or maybe the early 70's. http://wingman26.com/images/shooting/reloading/black-powder.jpg Quoted: Quoted: Powder in the pic is size XXX (three X) blackpowder. 3x is normally used in black powder pistols.
