hello. seen that auction in the gunlist. i always shake my head when i see huge collections like that. the guy collects his whole life and then dies, and the family sells everything off!. whats the point of having all of that if you never use it? i had almost 200 guns at one time. i was looking at them one day and said, what the hell am i doing! never going to use them all. sold a ton of them. now down to a bit over 50. still too many.

a friend of mine had over 800 guns in his collection. he had it in a huge bank vault. he collected for over 45yrs. he got smart and started selling them 4yrs ago because of his health and now he and his wife stay in california in the winter with the money.

to each his own i guess.  kirk

Dear lord, who can decide that?  I might spit out MG42 though without thinking.

A big +1. I have sold off most of mine in the last few years -- what's left are the guns I still shoot regularly, and those with sentimental value.

BTW, Bruce Stern's collection -- at least, the ones being sold in this auction -- totals over 4,000 Title 1 firearms and over 100 MGs, in addition to interesting non-firearms like flamethrowers, etc. The auction is expected to raise well in excess of $10 million. What a hobby....

At the time of his death, he was on the national Board of Directors of the NRA, where he had served for 11 years. So much for all NRA brass being anti-NFA.

Holy shit, I guess I'd go for the M60 or MG42...The M2 would be cool, if you had someplace to shoot it.

that's freaking awesome. i've always wanted a transferable RPD...

i'm truely jealous of you guys that were alive and buying guns when real guns could still be bought.

BTW, shrikefan ... Bruce Stern did have a Shrike. He was No.2 on the ARES list, so he had it for awhile ... I imagine it will be included in the auction, unless one of his kids keeps it.

I would like to get my grubby mits on one but the money for it would be better spent on... classIII!? I am all about the versatility of the ar platform and the Shrike fits that bill albeit expensively.

Mr. Sterns collection is something most of us can only read about and drool.
