I bought an Omega MP5K over the summer with the intent to SBR it. Before submitting my form one I put about 300 rounds through the gun and it ran great. Admittedly, most of these were suppressed (115, 124 NATO and 147).
A few weeks ago, my stamp came back and I added a Choate side-folder and HK vertical fore grip. After my first post-SBR range trip, I'm scratching my head. The good news is that gun still runs great suppressed. The bad news is that it won't reliably run the non-NATO stuff without a suppressor. Specifically, the gun will malfunction about 4% of the time with anything but the 124 NATO stuff (Winchester NATO and German Men NATO). The gun will fire, the bolt will cycle, but the spent case will not clear the ejection port before the bolt closes on the case. These are not traditional stove pipes where the case protrudes at 90* and can be swept clear with an offhand. Rather, the cases are most often stuck about halfway in the ejection port with the base/primer-end against the bolt and the open portion stuck against the front edge of the port. Occasionally, the case gets stuck in the ejection port in a vertical position with the base/primer end in the bottom of the port with the open end in the top of the port. The gun came with a 100* locking piece which I understand to be the correct part for un-suppressed use. Any thoughts about getting this thing to run with 147 grain ammo without a suppressor? And for those wondering about whether these will run hollow points, the gun was 100% with 147 Gold Dots and a suppressor (50 rounds total). |

I dont know if this is normal, first hk |

300 rds without any problems with different ammo and/or unsuppressed and suppressed and hopefully same mags, then the problems you have experienced (installed vertical grip or stock shouldn't cause the problems, IMO)....I'd do the KISS steps first: clean and lube it first before going any further.
The only time I had problems with FTE or stovepipe was when the firearm was bone dry with my MP5SD. After applying some lubes, it worked as before. |

UPDATE
I lubed the gun and tried again with Speer Lawman 147s and experienced the same ~4% failure rate. I installed a suppressor and it ran like a top with anything I put in it (147 FMJ, 147 Gold Dot, and 124 NATO). I removed the suppressor and the gun was 100% with 124 NATO. I cleaned and lubed the gun thoroughly before heading back to the range with a box of 124+P Gold Dots and experienced the same failures at about the same rate. I removed the suppressor and it ran 124 NATO without a hiccup. I think I have determined that this will only be used with NATO ammo or suppressed. I'll try 147s without a suppressor in another 1,000 rounds or so and see if the gun loosens up. |
