Once upon a time, just once, I had a class III dealer offer me a transferable non-Colt lower for $7000. Wish some of you had've been there to kick me to realize a good deal. I cringe at the thought of the cost now. Old Marine

Once upon a time (May 1994), an as-new, no-box Colt M16A1 for $2,000. The same SOT was trying to sell -- and I passed on! -- an NIB SWD-converted AK, also for $2k, and a Maremont M60 for $3,500. MGs are always too expensive on the day you find them. And then six months later, you are always kicking yourself for not buying them. |

Decided paying $2000 for NIB Colts was "too much".... also thought the $3000 RIA M60 and $4100 HK 21 was "too much"... live and learn... old burnsome...

Those prices are still a decade away if 1986. |

Does anyone remember the 4-5 Colt tool room prototypes that Vollmer had for sale in 1990 or so? $4k each: 2 variants of the AR-15 Survival Rifle, M16 Belt-feed conversion, couple other interesting ones. I still have bad dreams about that... All of you guys just stop it! Stop it now! I never wished I was born before 1985 until I started buying machine guns.....it's all your guy's fault. |

MGs are always too expensive on the day you find them. And then six months later, you are always kicking yourself for not buying MORE OF them. Fixed. In my case, in 2001, I asked the local MG dealer to be on the lookout for a Colt M16A1. He called me 8 months later (2002) to tell me they had bought 10 of them from the Alyeska Pipeline Co. and all but 1 was available for sale. As Tony said the price then seemed stupid high. Now, of course, I wish I had bought at least 2 more. I would keep 2 and sell the third to give me TWO FREE MGs. Oh well. Hindsight = 20/20. |

I remember buying my RR conversion in '99 for $4500 because I didn't want to fork out $6k for the Colt branded M16A1.
That OCD part of me still grumbles about not having an "actual" M16, but logically I can't find fault with my choice - it's always gone bang when I pulled the trigger, it's dimensionally correct and I've never had a fitting problem with uppers or mags. -bob |

Back then, I really didn't know about the legalities of Class Three. Anyways I think it would of been difficult anyways since the trust approval didn't happen till a few years later. Back then -- '80s, '90s -- we all just formed corporations. The $100 a year to the state for a holding company wasn't that painful, at a time when the $200 transfer tax was often more than you were paying to buy the machine gun itself. |

Oh well, can't go back in time. I only met one gentleman, who CC a snub King Cobra, that had Thompsons and probably other stuff. He was a friend of my then girlfriends, father. Maybe if I would of got to know him better I might of had a more enhanced collection now. My response back then in 91' was isn't that illegal " LOL. |

Quoted: Ruben is selling non-Colt NOS lowers for $17K right now. In 5 years everyone will wish they had bought one. That brings up an interesting question, could you buy it and send it off on a form 1 since your building it |

Don't make it any worse and more complicated than it already is |
