I sent an old rem 700 action off to bartlein barrels for a new barrel and truing/blueprinting the action.

It is an old action and really will need refinishing. They said wait till they are throught with it to do the refinishing.

They have had it about 8 months now and I am expecting it back soon. Have a mcmillan stock that should be here in the next couple of weeks.

What are my options for refinishing this action. Bluing is such a nasty process and I don't want them to mess up my new barrel

I hear all this about ceracote but know nothing about it.

I want a quality finish that will last. Just curious what the experts think..

8 months to barrel an action?

Damn...you should have contacted Long Rifles Inc and probably have had it back in less than a month.

Bluing is not a nasty process. Just as with any other finish, you want someone who is competent and knows what they're doing, Cerakote included.
If it's a stainless barrel, bluing is out of the question as your barrel would have to be removed anyway (you can't blue stainless). Cerakote is very well respected in the firearm industry.

for the SS barrel, black zinc plating is an option
