| When you have an item transferred from out of state, does the Form 4 from the Seller to your dealer take a shorter time than a normal Form 4 transfer to an individual? I am guessing the answer is no but I thought I would ask since the double Form 4 is going to be painful. |

Why is that 2 F4's? Wouldnt it be form 3 to dealer? Or is it F$ to your dealer because it's an individual sending to your dealer, not another dealer? F3 is dealer to dealer only? It is from an out of state individual and not a dealer, therefore it transfer to my in-state dealer on a Form 4 and then from him to me on another Form 4. I believe Form 3s are only from dealer to dealer. |

Ugh, I'm coming up on 3 months for a form 3 (Dealer to Dealer) so I think either way you're in for a wait. Ouch, thanks for the info. My last transfer was early last year and they were averaging 3 months. Wait times sure have gone down hill. Hopefully the temporary examiners will start having a positive impact soon. |

FWIW, I've had a couple of these (F4 from out of state individual to my dealer) go rather quickly. Last Dec, one took 30 days from mailing to seller receiving signed F4, door to door. We had one that was approved in early Jan. that was sent late Nov., but this was not discovered by us until May when I had my dealer call. The seller claimed he never got the original F4, neither he nor the dealer who brokered the deal (I'll call him "Bank" for this story) ever bothered to check on it...and it STILL took another month+ after we discovered it because the seller claimed that ATF wouldn't send him another copy. (My dealer got the copy, sent it to "Bank", and the gun was finally shipped. "Bank" did follow through w/seller at this point, but the commo reallllly sucked.) So yes, some ind-to dealer F4's are getting processed more quickly...and the bonus moral of the story is to never ever ever just trust that paperwork is being processed and a seller doing his part to get your gun to you, without at least calling ATF once after a few months. |
