| Terrible with cameras/technology so I figured I'd ask for some advice. Looking for 2 cameras to put outdoors. Looking to spend 300-400$. Would like to have wireless and accessible via smartphone or Internet. Is IR good? Does it give up the camera, meaning the lights coming off of it? Also, would like to keep it as small as possible as one would be at the front door.. Thanks for the advice in advance! |

PC-based security systems:
Security camera basics Personally, I like Pysoft software. It's one of a number of programs that turns your PC into a camera server. It supports Internet connectivity and motion detection. |

there are dozens of threads about this. If you want low profile then you are going to have to go dome. Upside is it looks better, downside is that IR light will reflect back onto the dome and will look like shit at night. Bullet cameras are less attractive but have better IR. I have dpme cameras at the front of my house mounted vertically on brick walls (ACTI E84) that have the IR turned off at night since they use the ambient street lights to see. Around the sides and back I use bullets for the IR distance.
Don't cheap out on cameras...consider upping your budget. Dauha is a good budget company, Hikivision is better, ACTI even better, and AXIS even mo' better. |
