| I know some of you guys are going to laugh but my mind is made up and I'm gonna ask. My heart is set on some GOOD pants for shooting and training. Something durable yet breathable. I used to wear carhartts but was wondering if there is anything better out there that I don't know about. |
|
5.11 makes good pants. I used to choose Columbia's ROC pants over 5.11s due to price, but not the Columbias in my area are just about the same price. I like the 5.11s for work. I can load the pockets down with cabling tools, ends, wire ties, etc and I don't have to carry another tool bag when I'm working. they seems to hold up retty well. |

any cargo pants/shorts you find on the sale/clearance rack at Kohls other than that I have several pairs of khaki BDU pants that I got when I was in High School (they're the poly cotton blends, I prefer those over the rip stops) that I really like and wear all the time. Great pants and they don't scream tactical. |

Tru-Spec 24/7's www.lapolicegear.com/truspec-24-7-tactical-pants.html CXS |

Tru-Spec 24/7 pants I have worn them all, and these beat them all. In addition, I get far more return customers for these than any other clothing item I have ever sold- and that speaks volumes. |

I love my Woolrich Tactical pants. In the same class as the 5.11 but much better design IMHO. More pockets and better design. The older 5.11 had the one small "cellphone" pocket up front, well the WoolRich has 2 pockets on each leg, and I found they will each hold 2 30 RD USGI AR mags. How bitchin is that? They have a standard and a lightweight fabric as well. |
Remember back in the 80's, Brigade QM made BDU Trousers in blue denim? How 'bout extra baggy Carharts in BDU cut? |
|
First off, I hope you guys are NOT buying Levis; they are a bunch of bed wetters that from what I understand donate a bunch of customers' hard earned money to anti gun groups across the country. Down here in Georgia, training means you are going to red clay all over you and whatever you have on will just about be trashed. I have found some places that carry cheap cargo pants for less than $30, so I buy those and keep them just for "training". Otherwise the Columbia stuff mentioned previous are some nice sturdy pants and I have used those. |

These are 5.11 pants on steroids: www.lapolicegear.com/5tahrtpacl.html 5.11 HRT pants prolly didn't sell very well at the $99 price point. At $30 they are great range pants. The armored knees remind me of the Toughskins I used to wear as a kid. Each cargo pocket has an inner pocket designed to hold 2 30 AR mags. They look a little too "mall ninja" for everyday use, but are great for the range, or even construction and heavy duty work. |
Propper made them in the early 90's- they were tough as nails. I am talking with Tru-Spec to see if they will start making something similar. |
|
I pitched all of my Levi's after seeing Levi Strauss listed on the NRA-ILA Factsheet. After soliciting some opinions here, I tried some of the 5.11 denim pants. I'm happy with them and will buy more whenever I wear these out. I can drop a j-frame in the front "hidden" pocket and, for the most part, it disappears. They are made overseas, but at least they're not from an anti-gun company or big-box-marts. |
BDUs...of course you should "train as you fight", so if you're expecting to fight in blue jeans, train in them. Jeans suck, imho. Too heavy to begin with, even heavier when wet, they bind/pinch/chafe badly when wet. But, if that's what you're wearing when the SHTF, best to have trained in them. |
Another happy Woolrich fan. |
+1 I wear em all the time and they're comfortable. |
Yeah, well, if I went by that list I might as well live on a mountain by myself... I'll support what I believe in with money, so I'll continue to wear my $40 Levis when I shoot my $1000 AR. |
+1 |

Bought a pair of Mountain Khaki Alpine Utility Pants the other day for T&E from Sierra Trading Post. They look to be a good pair of pants with 10.4 oz cotton duck canvas, gusset crotch, double knee, seat and rear cuff, triple stitched and bar tacked. |

They will each hold one 20 round magazine. |
