I picked up a brand new PTR91GI yesterday and took it to the range for the first time today. Well it was the worst funtioning rifle I ever fired, after a few light primer strikes, (very annoying) It goes full auto, or I should say 2-3 shot burst mode. It also misfed several times smashing the cartage case up real bad.  I changed mags and shot a few more it seemed to feed better but still would go into burst mode on every 3rd shot or so. This was a public range and I could not be fireing full auto on a non regestered gun, so I called it quits before anything real bad happed. I spoke to the dealer and since he picked it up threw Davisons Gallery he said they should swap it out.
I picked up this gun after I read how dependable they were in a news letter from Gabe Suarez.  Now I'm reading things that say "you can't shoot this but you might be able to shoot that"  I own a M1A that can shoot diffrent brands of ammo I also used to have a FAL that also would shoot anything no problem. Are these guns normally that picky?  I know My gun probably has more problems than Ammo but can I expect other problems?

Yea that's what I think. The dealer said he can swap it for a new one tomorow.  Hopefully I'll have better luck.

Which model did you get?

I have an earlier gun, when they were still doing the chamber flutes right and it eats anything I put through it. I believe they returned to a similar chamber in the GI model, but I'm sure someone can expand on that better than I can.

My only complain with mine is that is the hardest recoiling 7.62 rifle I own. It's noticeably worse than my FAL clone or M14s. I'll be picking up one of the heavy buffers from RobertG some time in the future to tame that some.

I was wondering if 'issues' might pop up... The sudden switch from the AK struck me odd when it first happened. Can't say I'm shocked.

If you frequent WT, keep these issues to yourself.... Talking ill of either of the 2 new 'greatest rifles since sliced bread' might get you banned.

I still don't understand how Gabe Suarez can even use a rifle like an AK or G3 clone seeing how he is a convicted felon. For those that don't know
Suarez was caught defrauding the Santa Monica Police Dept. He claimed worker's comp for slipping in the locker room and being too hurt to work.
He was too dumb though to not run around in firearms classes pretending to be GI Joe. He and his wife defrauded the city of over $100k and he got
jail time for it.

I was issued a Para G3 for a while in the British Army, it kicked he crap out of me every time I shot it but it never let me down the weak point is the magazines though gotta look after them!

Normally light primer strikes isn't an issue in that design.  On the next one try taking the bolt apart ( locking piece, firing pin etc) and make sure it is not packed with cosmoline.
