Can anyone tell me if frequently turning on a PVS 14, say four or five times an hour for several minutes at a time, vs leaving it on for a longer time, have any effect on longevity.  I sometimes have coyotes come up to my home and when my dogs bark I go out and check things out, but I've wondered if this might be harmful to the NV.  Thanks for any advice.

No harm, just wear and tear on the switch.

NV doesn't mind being turned on and off, though there's no need to do it unless you're going in/out frequently. If you're just outside looking around, you can use it as much as you want.

Gen3 tubes do deteriorate, but they do so quite slowly.

About the only thing to worry about is exposure to bright conditions... Such as artificial light or extremely bright moonlight/dawn/dusk and even then, I'd say that you might as well get your money's worth out of it -

Just avoid looking directly at bright lights. If you can see a halo, then it's probably too bright.
