In doing some research for a friend, I think I've noticed what has the potential to be a scam...

Go to Google Images. Type in 'G&P PVS7 dummy kit'. You might recognize this is a toy airsofters use to round out their ensemble. You'll notice a couple of pictures that look just like a model kit. All the parts are attached by sprues to a frame, just like a model car kit.

Here's an example:

Now, start looking at the pictures on ebay or elsewhere for PVS-7 build, refurb, shell or spare parts kits.

Here's two examples:

You'll notice the picture is almost *EXACTLY* like the airsoft dummy kit.

Also notice that I am not punking anyone out, but you can do your own research.

Maybe they will work.

Here's my thoughts... If you look at the main body, look at where the objective lens attaches. Internally, IT'S SOLID. I guess if you dremel it, it could work. Then, look very closely at the rear of the objective lens. You can see a post-type shape. I assume it is to mount the objective lens to the main body in the dummy kit. It also means there is NO WAY the light can go through, either.

Lastly, these kits are made of plain old plastic. Maybe they have weather-resistant gasket surfaces. I doubt it. the real ones are made of glass-filled plastic, and are very, very robust.

So, you can buy your own dummy kit for $60, and experiment, or you can pay some of these people $1,000.00 for the exact same thing. Up to you!!

Milspec PVS-7 parts never come in a twist out model plastic form. Just sayin...

The picture tells all. I don't need to read the description. Hopefully members here are more schooled and would never be fooled by such nonsense.

Yeah, those things look like toys and not milspec parts. Its easy to get ripped off on the auction site though.

Problem is, several otherwise reputable companies also seem to be selling this product, too. If you right click properties on the pics, they'll tell you where I found them...

That might be fine for you to see this to be Airsoft junk, but what about others?    This IS the stuff that has made this industry look like crap for years.

P.S.  BEFORE any of the "gang" around here and/or on other boards chime in which they always do....YES our parts we sell are the REAL DEAL from ITT and not second hand E-Bay or Chinese knock offs or any other Airsoft junk.

WTF-O?

I was merely pointing out that the 2 pics were not real parts based on what I could see. At no point did I bring TNVC into the conversation.

Never said you did.   Letting folks know that you may be able to identify this as junk, but some others would not.

Ok... Just not how it sounded to me.

So the PSA for folks here is the following (aside from it all being on plastic spruing, though honestly there is a very slim chance they might actually be manufactured that way):

The front lens housing (far left under the green shoelace) and the front main body bit (lower right) is how you can tell its fake. There are vids out on youtube that and I'm sure pics elsewhere that show what these parts should look like.

Out of curiosity, exactly HOW realistic are these G&P units? Think they'd look real for doing promotional type pictures? They sell some dual-battery PVS-14s and PVS-15s in addition to their PVS-7s, and it seems like they'd be great for a photo prop stand-in for a real unit.

cj7hawk made a real scope out of pvs14 airsoft dummy and a mx9916 tube, as did I based on his. Most people don't even notice, the exterior is almost identical.

That's pretty cool! Wish they had 1-battery version.
