Hey Guys -

Thinking about doing a krylon job on my MK18 this weekend. I was wondering what you used to tape up the glass on your optics. For an aimpoint would standard masking tape due or is there something else I should use that won't hurt the glass?

Thanks!

wide blue painters tape is what I use.

Do you put the tape directly on the glass?

I just did this with the blue painters tape, just put it right on the glass, then after completion just cleaned the glass, no problems.

If its bothers you cut out some circles of cardboard place in side and tape over those.

for mine, I just taped the whole front, sticking it to the rim of the sun shade, then trimming it off as close as possible to the edge without scratching the aluminum.  After paint and removal of tape, the front rim remains black, nice and crisp.  sure beats the pain of getting on the glass.

That is exactly how I do it too.  If it has an adjustable eyepiece, I screw it out, run tape around it then over the opening, screw it back in and then paint.
