ok so i bought a SOHPC in multi cam from greygroup, however i just realized that my issued 7x8 inch plates dont fit, only 6x6 inch plates. the only people that i can find who make 6x6 is MSA, so, i think im screwed because i dont want to spend money buying single hit side plates that const around 350 a pop when i already have side plates. any suggestions on what to do? i love the vest but im not going to drop another 700$ for side plates.

Ceradyne and ProTech make 6x6 side plates.

There was talk of an upgrade cumberbund for the SOHPC that would hold larger side plates.  Haven't seen it yet, and I'm still waiting for the releaseable version of the SOHPC to hit the streets.

ETA, just reread your post... the Ceradyne plates are ones sold by MSA/Paraclete as the "Stealth" side plates.  At $500/per they are over your desired price point.  However, they are the best I have seen (mine were issued with the RAV package).
