My SAs. Bottom one is a 5.89M service grade, top is a 4.3M field grade I picked up at CMP Talladega last weekend. Barrel has a lot of life left, and no pitting anywhere I’ve seen. I’m thinking the only thing that made it a field instead of service grade was a loose rear sight, which I’ve already fixed. Attached File |

Just picked up this Scout Squad Tuesday. Need to switch out the Razor for a Credo or possibly a Lupita. Probably change the OEM brake for a SF Warcomp. Need to oil the stock and check that for clearance. Really liking this rifle so far and now I get why people say this is the best version of the M1A for a do anything rifle.

I do think it will feel a little better with a TA11 or maybe even a Credo. |

Recently got the gun back from Springfield Armory. I bought this one used from a local pawn shop, but when I got it to the range, I was having all sorts of Fail to feed, fail to eject issues. replaced ejector and extractor w/ no success, but after doing some research online, turns out my rifle was made in 1979 and my bolt was subject to a recall from those years. I called Springfield, and they confirmed it was. they sent me a return label, and after about a month, I got it back with a new bolt. Took it out to the range this past Thursday and it ran GREAT! I loaded up a couple more clips worth of 30-06 hand loads and filled another bandolier. Figured I’d take a new picture of the ‘43 Springfield.  The bayonet is a ‘43 PAL. Here’s my ‘43 Winchester and ‘43 Remington Rand:  I have no particular reason for so many “43” guns, but that is my father’s birth year. |

Scout Squad I've had a few years. Finally decided to do a little work on it. Painted stock. Replaced brake with M14 flash hider I've had a while. Decided to mount a Primary Arms 1x micro prism. Just need to get a cheek pad to raise my head up a bit to get a proper cheek weld for the optic.

Stripped one of my Loaded M1A’s down. The Surefire mount didn’t line up right on this barrel. I’m assuming the threads on the barrel weren’t concentric. The alignment rod was impeding on my can pretty bad. My other Loaded lines up just about perfectly so it’ll be my “Supressed M14”. I put the original match flash suppressor with NM front sight back on. I did leave the ARMS 18 “window” scope mount incase I want to put an optic back on. Took it to the range and zeroed today with ball. Being fall and it was after lunch, the sun was shining towards me and shadowed the target area. I ended up stapling a big leaf to the center of the target to give me some nice contrast for my eyes. Once I got the sights where I wanted, I shot three into about 2.5 inches. Should do better with my “M852” handloads.

Back in the ‘80s, the red patches on the trousers and soft cover indicated that the Marine wearing them was part of Landing Support Bn (LSB). From what I was told, the existence of LSB dates back to at least WWII. I think they used to have an Air Delivery Platoon, but I’m not sure if that was a company (one per) or Battalion asset. Logistics support was reorganized early on in GWOT so I’m not sure if LSB exists with that name (within CLR?) or if it’s called something different now. Honestly, I can’t imagine it changing because if there’s a service that reveres the sanctity of history and tradition it’s the USMC, but I dunno. |
