Just wondering what kind of physical discomfort does a typical user get from using NV device. I remember using a PVS-7 in the Army and was getting really bad headache/ nausea, after less than an hour. Also, it was difficult judging the distance of tree, fox holes,etc...
Does a newer NV device, like PVS 14 or MUM14 give the same discomfort? Does it matter what generation it is? - gen 2 D300 VS PVS 14 gen2/3. How to deal w/ it? |

The only discomfort I've ever had using a pvs is a little neck fatigue, and some sensativity on my head from the helmet after many hours. Again this is after hunting a very long time helmet mounted 4-7 hours.
Distance is still hard to judge, but after awhile you get pretty good at it estimating yardage. |

Yeppers, my dilemma exactly after all these years with 7's. A 14 or MUM with the other eye unobstructed alleviates most everything associated with the PVS-7 dilemma's. Not really a generation of tube issue either, except maybe for a Gen 1 fishbowl effect device. Obviously one see's a whole heck of a lot better with a Gen 2 SHP or Gen 3 device. Hope this helps.

I got a Wilcox filter for my pvs14 (both through TNVC) and it helps in the areas of
1. obviously less light is shown on the face for tactical reasons 2. less blooming and less fiddling with gain - I would say a must have for units without gain if they make it for them 3. hardly any loss of night vision out of the monocular eye when the pvs is taken away from the eye. Seems like less eye strain. Without it I can EASILY tell that that eye has been flooded with light when I drop the pvs down and try to look with normal vision. Only con I have found is is does seem to darken the image just a tad - I just turn the gain up a bit more with it on. And my ring fits really tight so taking it off to put on the eye cup may be a chore. (you can pop the filter off and leave the ring on so the only reason to take the ring off would be to put the cup on) |

I've never had issues with my issued NVDs (PVS-14s, PVS-15s and my MUM) and I never hear of complaints from my co-workers. I hope this helps. |
