M1's are a little new to me, but I've read the manuals, watched the videos and still can't get my triggerguard to budge one millimeter!

Am I doing something wrong?

I'll post pics of the rifle later tonight, I have to get a new usb cable

First, cycle the oprod so the hammer is cocked. Grasp the rear most portion of the trigger guard and pull back (towards the butt end) and down at the same time. Don't be timid with it. Some can be a real pain in the ars to get loose.
Once the trigger guard is pulled free continue to pull it down untill it bottoms out. Now pull down on the entire trigger assembly to remove it ftom the receiver and stock.

I'm doing exactly that and it WON"T BUDGE!  Almost to the point of throwing my shoulder out!

I'm going to try the dowel trick mentioned on your CMP link.

Don't be afraid to use something for leverage. I've used a punch even a large phillips screwdrive with no problems.

Ok, I used a thick pencil and it worked.  Pencil is in a bijillion pieces.

Thanks!

Smack the triggerguard UP into the stock a few times, then try the screwdriver or dowel trick, you have a tight stock be happy.

BLO is Ok, but I use Minwax Tungoil with excellent results plus it protects the wood really well.  Get it at any hardware store.

ETA:  Congrats on being in the M1 Garand club!

What I'm really trying to do is bring out the tiger striping that I can see in the wood.

Anyone have any ideas that work?
