What would be the best way to pin a FH on a barrel?

I thought about drilling a hole through the FH, a dimple or shallow hole in the barrel, inserting a pin, or even threading the hole in the FH, and driving in a set-screw kind of screw, and silver soldering or welding the hole back up.

Any other ideas?

What say the gunsmithing guys?

WECSOG graduate here

- I've done it twice; like this:

1/8" pin cut to length, thread FH onto barrel, drill through FH and into threads just a little, drive pin in, weld over (had a friend with a TIG do it), grind smooth, refinish.

Excellent. Exactly what I thought.

the method osprey described is how both randall at AR15barrels and ADCO have done my FH's or at least as best as i can tell from when i "unpinned" them

Pin is not really necessary.

Silver solder will meet the requirements of ATF as long as it melts at 1100 degrees.

Refinish will be required.

while not necessary, pinning is much easier to do and remove if needed, cleaner, and doesn't require heating the muzzle of your barrel to 1100F.
