Well there is a wealth of info here on NV, and I have looked around so hopefully I don't get slapped down for a fairly simple question. I'd just like some specific input on my scenario. For 2-3 years now I've been predator hunting at night over the winter with a bait pile and motion detector that alerts us audibly when something arrives. Been using a generic 2 million candlepower spotlight and a variety of rifles. This has been pretty successful on a couple foxes, bobcat, racoons, etc. But things tend to get real jittery with that huge spotlight on them. Also tried a red light and its either still so bright they get nervous anyway or too dull to see them if its not making them nervous. So this winter we're thinking of an NV setup. The bait pile is 125 yards from where we hunt from, so I'm trying to see what would be the least expensive, simplest setup that would work for that situation. I'm also thinking of either an IR spotlight or flashlight to go along with the NV scope for added visibility. The other possiblity is that we have a game camera which can take 2 minute IR videos which I assume would flood the area with extra IR light if setup right over the pile. So what would be a decent, somewhat inexpensive ($1500 or less) setup that would allow for good image quality through the optic for making out small game at the 125 yard distance? This could be mounted on a variety of rifles including potentially my AR-10 if that makes a difference. Sorry for being long winded and thanks for any help. Tim |
