I'm able to get the IFAK with the belt on. It's velcro backed and comes off. I ran it on my left side for awhile but it was always hitting door frames and crap. Thanks for the kind words about the gear stand. I should have built that along time ago.

My cobbled together chest rig for submission. I had a split front Tactical Tailor chest rig that was never quite what I wanted, so I used one panel, sewed on some different attachment points, added a OSOE H harness, and voila. Left to right, ATS GP pouch, HSGI Soft Taco with ATS Med Insert, 2 HSGI Double Decker Tacos stacked on two single Tacos (Total of 4 rifle mags), and the small pouch on the strap is a BFG Ultralight Ten Speed dump pouch. |

Crye makes great stuff. The JPC is my favorite minimalist rig. I try to run it as bare bones as possible. 2X ESAPI Level 4 plates. 2X Velocity Systems IIIA Kevlar Plate Backers 5 mags, a Leatherman, Surefire Z2 light, mini Blow out kit/TQ, a couple chem lights, batteries, ear pro, pen and pad. Motorola XTS series radio/PTT (not usually necessary)

I imagine the NICE frames are equally as comfortable and balanced. After owning the 3DAP and the ASAP, my primary packs will always be Tri-Zips. So much better with the super quick access to your gear. The front zippers are beefy as hell and I am yet to hear about somebody blowing one out. I scrolled back a couple of pages and seen your review on the Komodo. Looks like I might have to spring for one of those as well for a longer distance sustainment pack in the future

The ATS Upright small GP Pouches are 3"x8"x3", so kinda' depends what you plan on putting in them. If it's a Nalgene bottle, they fit PERFECT. However, a Nalgene won't fit if you're rocking some kind of Koozie over it(that water will be lukewarm to tea hot in a matter of hours anyway).

Kinda hard to see in the pic, but there are 2 rows of PALs webbing and a couple anchor points for tying down sensitive shit inside the pouches, which is kinda' useful. They are constructed of lighter 500 Denier Cordura, which just kinda mooshes down when not in use. Overall, I find them essential add-ons for water/snivel shit if no other provisions come on the side of a pack. |

There's other waypoints on our route but those are the main ones. |

I hiked through that area in 2011, and then again last year since I liked it so much. You may be better off for missing out. Norovirus has shown itself: My brother is in the northern half of the Smokies/Hot Springs area this week, after sh*tting his pants about 20 miles south of Gatlinburg, spending a day or two in the fetal position, and then finally crawling into town to get a hotel for a day or so and clean up..

The good news is I got every AT track imported into my MotionX app, along with all the Linville Gorge tracks. Gonna do some cool shit this spring/summer/fall. |
