So far all of my reloading has been for long range varmint/target shooting. I have only used Varget so far for .223. I have BCL2, H335, and Reloader 7. I am wondering which ones would be best used for throwing lead down range in an SBR and which ones would work best for target loads.

Which powders are preferred for FMJ range loads?

I use BL(C)-2 and H335 for FMJ blasting ammo and Varget and Benchmark for precision target ammo.

RL7 has made some nice accurate ammo for me. I needed to get to just about maximum loads in order to have reliable cycling in the AR though. It is on the edge of too fast for the application. That might be an advantage getting port pressure for a SBR. Can't say as I have any experience there.

For blasting ammo, the H335 or BLC2 would be good choices. I prefer the H335.

Target loads I use Varget, Tac, and RL-15.

FMJs get BLC2, Tac, or AA-2230.

I shoot two 16" 1 in 9's.

I use H335 for 52g - 55g bullets, And Rel15 for 68g.
The H335 gets sub 1" groups out of a 20" & 16" bbl & 1.5" - 1.75" with 11" SBR @ 100yds.
SBR has EoTech & 20" has 4-12 scope... so that is probably part of it.
Cycling is fine with all.
