I just finished my 9mm AR-15 build with a 10.5 inch barrel.  I am aiming to load some subsonic heavies (155 gr cast powder coated) and some max velocity 124 gr cast powder coated rounds.  I pretty well have the heavies under control, so my question is which powder will give me max velocity with the 124 gr coated bullets?  I have Unique, Win 231, Titegroup and access to a few others.

Thanks!

My vote goes to Alliant Power Pistol.

Either W231 or Titegroup will get you there.  Win 231 is probably safer though.  TG can get a touchy, and works better with heavier bullets IMHO.

TiteGroup and 231 are too fast and will pressure spike long before you get to maximum velocities.

Unique will be much better than the other two but still not nearly as good as you can get.

Power Pistol got 115gr FMJs to 1325 fps from a 4.5" barrel with no signs of pressure in my pistol.

Yep...and from a 10.5" barrel would be most......

231.  I have burned through tens of thousands through my SBR.

I've been using Blue Dot for 115's in my pistol.  It's a slow burning powder so I get some impressive muzzle blast from a 4" barrel.  Your longer barrel should do something for the velocity and reduce flash, but I don't have one to try it in nor do I have a chrono, so I'm guessing.  Oh, in my P09 accuracy is impressive with this load, too.

231 will do well but for max velocity get some power pistol.

Save the Titegroup for the suppressed heavy stuff

124's to  go,, #7 here, Power Pistol, 3N37, 3N38, HS6,

Power pistol will blow the doors off of blue dot. I played around with it a bunch and even though some books show the blue dot loads as high velocity PP beat it in my testing. Blue dot was dirtier too

I got 1300FPS out of a 4.4" barrel with 124 Nosler JHPs and VV 3N38. Look up 9mm Major load data.

I mark the brass with a red sharpie and only use once though.

Second vote fof Silhouette. Use it for full power heavy bullets

in 45 Auto, should do well in longer AR 9mm barrel.

to be honest I think everything has mentioned has been good.

ive found
231
titegroup
unique
bullseye
CFE pistol
HS-6

to all be good powders for both 115's and 124's
never loaded any 147's so there may be one or two that work best for it.

HS-6 and Titegroup gave the most impressive velocities from my G34. CFE as well.

I HATE Blue Dot in 9mm.  That just spews unburnt powder all over the place, and takes ridiculous charges, of like... 8 gr or something like that.  It doesn't throw worth a damn, because I've eaten smaller pancakes than a fricken Blue Dot flake.  If ever there were a powder that should discontinued - Blue Dot is it!   ... f'ing Blue Dot.

But maybe you're right in a longer carbine BBL - Lord knows there's plenty of powder left to be burned still in that extra BBL length!

I'm sorry but I laughed out loud at this!

It's funny because it's true.

I'm sure it's a great 10mm or .357 Magnum powder.

I've used it in 9mm long ago, I think it likes a longer barrel and/or "harder to push" bullet (longer bearing surface and or harder jacket) to really burn well in 9mm.

This was the greatest response I have seen

Tried Blue Dot once in 45 ACP, didn't care for it at all either. Might be a great magnum handgun powder but I didnt have much use for it.

Worked with Bluedot in a 16" carbine and it was still dirty

I think VV N350 would be a good choice.  Or maybe Ramshot True Blue.  I think N350 is going to get you better velocity.  I have a 124 gr Gold Dot load worked up with N350 that clocks around 1220fps from a stock Glock 19.

I like it as well for 124 grain target/practice loads but don't expect max velocity with that powder.

800X is Blue Bot twin..

You want Blue Dot loads in 9mm,, then use Accurate 7... it is a very fine powder, 8gr of #7, and you still have some place to put bullet..  much more than that. you should use hollow base bullet, otherwiase compression wont let you set bullet tooo well

Save Blue Dot for the magnum calibers, or those that want a carbine 45acp load with 10" barrels,,,, 1080 FPS with 800X book load and 230 LRN out of 10"Uzi pipe
