so, i purchased a Salvo 12 and later realized the chokes/attachments aren't compatible with my bird gun (mossberg 935 ultimag), nor are they compatible with my 'fun' shotgun that i use for trap/skeet (HK/Fabarm FP6), but i do have adapters for my Vepr-12, just not easily legal to hunt with in Michigan, nor is it practical for trap/skeet at the local gun club..

so, looking around, I think i've decided to pick up a Weatherby SA-459 (takes benelli tubes)

anyone have any experience with weatherby ?   i'm used to limited parts availability, so that's not a big deal, but am interested in reliability/known problems/etc..

I'm also looking for a new bird/turkey gun, something semi-auto, doesn't need to be 3.5" capable, but does need to be compatible with the Salvo..  hoping to keep it under 1k for the bird gun

any info/suggestions ?

Thanks for the stoeger tip, the M3000 looks like a pretty nice all-around fit for what i'm looking for, just need to figure out where to get one now :)

I'm intrigued by the inertia system, i've never shot with it before, just gas-based, but i've heard really nice things about the benelli system over the years.

thanks agin!

I really like my Beretta A300.  It is gas operated and can be found for under $700.

thank you for the suggestion and expanding my options, i was pretty stuck on mossberg 900 series until today, but felt like there was more to 'discover' but i wasn't sure where to start

I have the Weatherby, in Grim Reaper finish.  I used it as my deer gun last year.  Mine is in 20 gauge and is a joy to handle (all of my shotguns are 20 gauge)..

It's basically a copy of the Beretta 390 series.  Comes with a high and low pressure gas piston.  Mine has run slugs flawlessly.   It doesn't like cheap Wally World bulk pack.  So far I've written that off as new gun tightness and frankly a lot of auto  shotguns don't like the cheap ammo anyway.  It was never my intention for this to be a bird gun so I'm not overly concerned about it.

The gun is made in Turkey.  I've had good luck with Turkish guns.  Aftermarket stuff is pretty much non-existent but there's really nothing I feel I need to add to the gun.

I paid $399 at Sportsman's Warehouse.  I've seen these guns priced anywhere from $399 to $699.  At $399 I consider it a hell of deal.  At $699?  I don't know.

Overall I completely happy with it.
