Hi, I'm planning on getting my first rifle soon, and need help finding the components that I want on the internet. Tho I've seen them mentioned here before.

I decided that I was going to try to build the lightest rifle I possibly could.

So with that in mind I'm going to need information on who makes the lightest lower recievers that are Jersey legal.

After that I need to find out if anyone even makes upper recievers that don't have forward assist and Brass deflectors.

I'll be needing a 16 inch thin profile barrel. I intend to be using mid length handgaurds instead of standard carbine type so that may be a factor

I don't think the internals have much wieght difference between them, but even if they do I'm still going to want a quality mil-spec bolt and carrier assembly.

And whats really got me stumped... I recently saw mid length Triangular handguards, I would very very much like to get the link to who makes those. (I just can't stand the carbine size handgaurds, and I don't like the dissipator style).

Thank you very much for any help you can offer me.

Here's a lightweight: The FAR-15

Find them here: www.olyarms.com/arret.html

Mike

PS - doesn't have the features you listed, but it's lite.

Thanks, I'll probably use that as my base but 'm still going to look for an upper thats sans forward assist and  brass deflector, I think they are called SP1's but I'm not sure.

I'm also really keen on the mid length trangular handgaurds that I've seen posted here but  can't seem to fnd myself.

Any leads guys?

For starters you need to post your ? here -

As for the mid-length h.guard/barrel setup, getting one in lightweight config. will require some custom work unless there's something new out there.

I asked about flat-top uppers and it appears that DPMS makes one w/o the FA and w/o the brass deflector or port cover.  Les Baer apparently makes one w/o the FA, but with the deflector and cover.  Don't know about uppers with handles, but the others w/o the FA probably have A1 sights.

DPMS does make one without the forward assist and deflector, but it's walls are a lot thicker.

I would find a A1 upper for sale. I have one with not forward assist and no deflector with a 20" pencil barrel, it is one of my favorites.

We have a Cav 15 at the shop with a 16" light weight barrel, cav comp, our M4 style handgaurds with the single heat shield. It weighs in about 5 1/4 lbs. that is with the A2 upper. an A1 upper might save a little more weight.

I'm starting to realize that coming up with a fancy custom config is just going to move the AR out of my price range.

So I'm thinking about just getting a decent starter rifle without any hard to find parts at first.

I still would like to find an upper that comes with a thin profile barrell AND 1x7 or 1x9 twist.

IIf I build it tho I'm still gonna want the triangular handgaurds, the full length kind (I'll bite  the bullet and get the 20 inch barrell) do they still offer those?

BTW is it possible to put other Uppers on a Colt Match Target lower? ('m paranod becuase well  live in Jersey and the Match Targets are the only AR style exempted by name, Bushmasters and Armalites are legal or illegal based on the Whim of the officers and the courts)

For a scary read on the subject check out www.sussexcountyjustice.com

He Had a Match Target whhc was later identified  as lawful  but hasnt gotten the charge for ownng it dropped.
