I'm looking for a way to mark my plinking ammo to make it easier to sort brass when I get back from the range.

I often shoot a bunch of reloads (mixed brass), and pick up a ton of once-fired cases while I'm there.

Right now, I try and police my brass and separate it from the stuff I pick up so I don't waste time re-swaging stuff, but I'd like to be able to just throw all 5.56 brass I can find on the ground around me into a bucket, and quickly sort it out at home.

Anyone use this stuff? Makron Primer Sealer

I figure some unique color marking on the primer will allow me to quickly identify my brass from once-fired stuff, and allow me to quickly sort a mixed bucket at home.

Is there a cheaper alternative?

I use on of these.

After loading and before I put them in storage boxes I just mark them with this. Grab a case and stamp it onto the pad. it dries overnight.

I pick up brass at the range and toss it into an ammo can. When I get home I sort by caliber and  "my" brass and "new to me" brass.

The green color is easy to see after it has been fired. I am sure red would work too. Back does not work so good as it is hard to distinguish from carbon.

I tried a black sharpie at first but found that process to be real slow compared to using a stamp pad.

The only downside is the stamp pad ink takes a day to dry. I stamp them and toss into a bin until dry then I put into final storage.

I recently worked up some loads with Hornady 75gr BTHP Match and 8208XBR. I loaded 10 rounds each from min to max in .5gr increments. I marked each case with a black Sharpie with the powder content. I was surprised the makings stayed through firing.
