Okay here's the deal I cannot find Fed 210 primers anywhere everybody is sold out!! I can buy them them locally for $37 per 1K which is very high so I am looking for a suitable replacement, I know I will most likely have to start my load development over but it is what it is

I currently use:
LC cases
Fed 210 primers
H3037 150 FMJ BT
IMR 4895 @ 43.8

This load is used in a SA M1A and works very well but now I am low on primers and cannot locate the 210's except locally at a premium price , I would like to have something close to the 210's for burn rate etc.. but I know very little about primers

Try some CCI BR2's. If anything by a hundred of a few brands and see what you like best

How do you match a primer to a powder ? Is it by trial and error ? or is there a different method

There are so many other variables to consider. You can test extreme spreads and standard deviations when switching primers to find out which is the most consistent. Some loads just shoot better with certain primers as well. I would think that you could always change primers and if your group opens up, just re-tune the load.

ETA- I have always used WLR and recently switched to the Russian primers that wolf distributes and it didnt change a thing with my load.

Look about 2/3 rd's down the page.

I should have included the advice below; the rule of thumb when changing one component in a previous load is to reduce the charge weight 5% to start.  Just about current load manual applies 10% across the board, whether it's a revision of a load you've already shot, or not.

Change a parameter, and you should rework the load up.....

Right on.

It's a PIA......to make up a good load.......then, run out of powder (or primers).

I use to live in Hawaii......powder (or primer) selection was dismal and sometimes the shipping of powder (or primers) was spotty. You could be facing a "dock strike" or your store could be sold out on any given day. It was common for me to "stock up," on all components.

BTW.......I hardly ever saw Remington primers and when I did see them they were usually a little higher in price.

Of course, IF you buy in bulk via the internet and pay hazmat......that may work.
