I purchased an optics mount a couple of weeks ago for my 10/22, one which is elevated with a tunnel through it to allow me to use iron sights as well. The problem I am having is that I think the screws that came with the mount have worn out the threads in the top of the reciever. The mount won't stay secured, and the screws loosen themselves over time. Should I just lock-tite the screws in place, or do I need a new optics mount? I am not entirely happy with this one anyway, since I have to mount my Holosight way to the rear, with the rear 1/3 sticking out from the back of the mount. I'd like something that looks a little better than that, not to mention functioning correctly. Any suggestions? Thanks. |

I used one of those same mounts once and had the same problem. Here are your options as I see them: The cheap and less reliable though possibly permanent solution would be to JB weld those screws and mount to the top of the reciever. A good bump may or may not knock your scope loose...don't know. JB weld is incredible stuff but even it has limitations. Mileage may vary. another option: Re-drill and re-tap your upper reciever holes to 8 - 32 Then drill a little larger hole in your see-through mount for the larger screws. Be forwarned that the heads of the new screws will protrude into your "tunnel" and possibly block your view of your open sights. yet another option: Re-drill and re-thread as before, then use a power custom or tactical solutions mount (you will have to modify it for the larger screws) and get see-through rings for your scope. even another option: Have your barrel drilled and tapped to accept a volquartsen or power custom barrel-mounted scope mount and ignore the reciever holes altogether. 3 and 4 are probably the best options IMO. Good Luck! |
