| I am trying to remove the old collapsible buttstock on my rifle and the nut is staked on. Has anyone seen this before and if so what is the best way to remove without tearing the gun up. I have a new collapsible stock going on. |

It's staked onto the receiver extension, if your going to modify the gun who cares if you scratch the tube; they are cheap, replace it.
Although I have removed them by tacking a piece of scrap 1/4 rolled to the castle nut right behind the stake and using the tack as a hinge and the scrap rod as a lever gently pry up the staked area. Maybe not something you should do unless your handy with a welder, you don't want to over penetrate (it would put a divot in the tube your trying to save) and make certain you cover the receiver before you tack it so as to not get boogers on your receiver. |

I made a small tool with a small chisel. I used it on edge so it was as wide as the groove the receiver extension nut. I pounded it into the groove to push back the material from staking the butstock tube locking collar. Or if you don't want to save the original nut and collar, use a thin Dremel cutting wheel and just cut the staking out. I had a 9mm stock from a subgun kit come to me that way. I would try to save the original parts. Even if you don't want them the "retro" guys would be interested. Good luck with your stock project.
