My pvs 7 worked properly, I store and when again I try use it does not work, all you see is black. who can repair ? |

It could be a lot of things!
First, check your batteries. Are they dead? Try brand new ones. I would need both hands ti count hiw many times i've gone to use an expensive electronic device, it's dead, my heart sinks, and then with new batteries it powers on fine. Look into the battery compartment with a light, is there visible corrosion? It's not recommended to leave batteries installed long term, they can leak and the contacts could corrode. Next, it could be the reset/off/on switch, i've handled some units with finnicky switches. I don't know of a test but... If you want to know if your intensifier tube works, the pvs7 tube is easy to remove, and by applying three volts to the tube directly, in a dark room, see if it will light up. As long as the tube works, fixing the system shouldn't be a major deal. |

Many times corrosion can build up on the battery contacts if stored for long periods. Especially if you left dead batteries inside. TNVC will service your PVS-7 and diagnose the issue. Ed Wilcox is another reliable person who fixes US made scopes. Like mentioned test the tube first. If the tube lights up your problems are minor. The PVS-7 is most likely the easiest scope to work on IMHO. |

One of my PVS-7`s did that a few years ago. That sinking feeling isn`t nice!!. Turned out to be just the tube contacts. As mentioned if it isn`t the batteries, The Reset or battery contacts.
Unscrew the whole front lens off the housing at a clean workstation and the tube will just pull gently out. Wire a couple of AA batteries together and with the tube facing down on clean surface add power to the contacts. It should fire up, Not a problem from what I have done in past if you get the + & - around the wrong way it just wont do anything till you get it right. Give the contacts a clean with Isopropal Alchol, Both the tube and inside the housing. Give the tube and inside the housing a blow off with dry compressed air . Canned or from a scuba tank. Put it back together and try it out. Alot of noise is made over nitrogen purging but as long as the air inside the unit is dry you shouldn`t have any problems. Many of the PVS-7 units sold new don`t have Nitrigen in them at time of sale. Question????? Does the IR indicator in the eyepice light up when the IR is turned on?? If so its probably tube contacts of hate to say it the Tube. Have had a clients tube do that once. Tube not run for 4-5 months after working perfectly. New batteries installed and tube was dead and had to be replaced with a new one. Just out of habbit I run all my NV sets about once a month when Im not useing them just for a few seconds and always remove the batteries even if Im useing them the next night. Good luck with it and let us know how you get on. |
