Anyone have firsthand experience to compare these two?
I'm mainly interested in performance on rifles - I know that the Prodigy meters WAY better than the Spectre on rifle hosts, but how much of a difference is there to your ear? (FYI, I already have a Spectre, but am considering a lighter can for rifle hosts - but if the performance difference is negligible, I don't feel like using the funds just for weight reduction when they could be put towards other NFA...) |

If weight is a concern, look at the Silencerco 22Sparrow. It's a pretty neat, user-servicable can. It performs well on 10/22's. Yes, I also like the 22Sparrow a lot. The design makes it very easy to take apart even after hard use. I've shot mine on machine guns even and had no problems taking it apart. It is a good option for sure. The AAC Element is light weight as well. In fact, it weighs the same as the 22Sparrow. The Spectre, 22Sparrow and Element are my favorite .22 cans hands down. I own them all. Mark |

This is interesting, most of the Prodigy threads that I see go down fairly quickly. Why? Is it AAC or is it the can?
I chose it based on the results from SR and how well it did on all of the hosts and that I only intend to use it with 22lr. I know the Specter is a tank, but why no real love for the Prodigy? I am waiting right now for the F3 to transfer a Prodigy to my dealer. Wes |

I am waiting right now for the F3 to transfer a Prodigy to my dealer. Wes I too am waiting on a Form 3 for a Prodigy to my dealer. Here's why I see no love for the Prodigy: 1. The original baffle core design was a bad one. It didn't perform too badly on rifles, but was quite loud on pistols. Even though the new core is one of the best out there as far as db reduction, it's always hard to shake a bad first impression. 2. It shares the same price-point with two cans with very similar sound performance, but much more compelling features. The SIlencerco Sparrow is similar in that it is a monocore all-aluminum can, but it has the ingenious clamshell tube liner to ease in take-down and cleaning. The Sparrow is also rated for .17HMR. The SWR Spectre is a built-like-a-tank can with stainless construction and thus can take harsh, but more widely available cleaning methods and is rated for seemingly EVERYTHING. 3. AAC does not have the reputation around here for the best C.S. So far, I haven't found that to be the case, but that's what I've gathered from reading on this forum. That said, I got a great deal on my Prodigy and can't wait to shoot it! |

Oh and on the customer service end of it...
I bought a Blackout Flash Hider for my incoming M4-2000. The dealer I bought it from had it around his shop, and shipped it to me without the Rocksett, which he no longer had. I e-mailed AAC and asked if I could purchase some Rocksett from them. I got a very prompt e-mail asking for my address and letting me know they would be sending me some for free! I got it today in the mail along with an awesome AAC catalog. |

True, the first production cores didn't match the prototype performance, so they were all upgraded for free to a newer design that performs even better than the original prototypes. Quoted:

The simple-looking design of the Prodigy is deceiving- it has a number of patented features that help disassembly- the inside of the tube is stepped as is the core, allowing easy removal after about half a turn. This action breaks up buildup. It is not simply a "core in a tube" a lá the Mite. You are right about it being only for .22LR. If you want stainless internals, all steel, multi-caliber, and still very light weight, look at the AAC Element too. Quoted:
3. AAC does not have the reputation around here for the best C.S.... that's what I've gathered from reading on this forum. This forum is not friendly to AAC, due to past run-ins between a now ex-AAC employee and some of this site's major sponsors. Sucks, but it is what it is. Some of us associated with AAC try to be cordial. Hell, I like OPS cans, Surefire flashlights, and Larue mounts. And, that all said, the Spectre is a REALLY good can too. And the SWR guys are awesome. Let us know how your Prodigy is when you get it. |

I am still waiting for my dealer to get it, almost 3 weeks now and he says some F3's are taking up to 6 weeks. I am really excited about getting it ad my dealer was really hoping to get som extra AAC cans for stock but the ones he asked for (M42000, M41000,and a couple of others) were out of stock. He was dissappointed and said he has always had trouble getting through to the sales dept. Luckily the Prodigy was in stock, now if we can get it to him so I can start my transfer.

I love my SWR Spectre.............
I use between a Ruger 22/45 and a Ruger 10/22. Is scary quiet with subsonics ...........with Federal bulk pack it is still very quiet
Comes apart easy for cleaning Now the Spectre comes with their new push tool for removing the baffle stack and the price did not go up |
