I decided to start a thread dedicated to what will be my first and only SIG firearm.... for a while at least I have been eyeballing the 556 rifles and pistols for a while, but have been consumed by my ARs, AKs, and Saiga 12s. All of those projects are pretty much done and it is time to dive into something new for a change. I am working a trade deal for a 556 pistol and intend to SBR it first thing because rifle caliber pistols are pretty much useless to me. If this trade falls through I will be buying a 556 pistol regardless as I feel that I have "got the SIG 556 bug".

I am torn as for to what to do for a stock. When I get the weapon in hand and get a chance to examine it (fondle, lol), I think I will be able to decide where to go with it. I like the idea of having a Swiss folder, but do not want to go through the effort and expense of buying a whole Classic rifle just to get the reciever that is compatible with it. With the 556s being a bit nose heavy, I am leaning toward a Magpul UBR (with spare parts, etc. in it). The rifles that I have seen with the UBR look like they could have came from the factory with it. I really hate to spend $250 on a stock, but I'll just spend that $250 on some other stuff anyways, so I may as well get what I want. My last Form 1 took about 3 months to get approved, so I have a minute or two to think about it.

The 556 pistol in question has the factory quad rail on it and I am not sure if I want to keep it on there or not. The thing looks quite heavy. Is there a particular reason that most people have the plastic handguard? Are these guys the "traditionalists"? (Like the AK guys that will only sport 'Russian Red' wood handguards?). Nothing wrong with it, but I'll take versatility and function over asthetics most times. On something as short as the pistol, I would like some form of hand stop, be it vert grip or light, so the railed quad may be a must for me. With others firing my weapons, I would feel like hell if someone less experienced suffered unjury.

I will most certainly post pics when I get this lil'evlsig in my posession

IMO, couple a UBR while having all the Sigs weight being closer to your body and you will have a well balanced winner.

I know it will never be as light as my 12.5" AR, but I would like to achieve a similar balance. I appreciate the vote of confidence for the UBR. It is hard to spend $250 and just hope for the best on blind faith

I can actually second that.

I went through 800 dollars worth of folders and went back to the UBR.  It just fit me best and felt most natural.

I now want several more pistol calibers and want to keep them so.  I enjoyed shooting them and the accuracy––-despite the weight––-surprised me.
