Just wanted to give props to SWR. They posted over on the website where you Talk about Silencers that they will have an upgrade program for current Octane/OctaneHD owners to upgrade them to the new Octane HD setup. Best part of all..... it's going to be FREE OF CHARGE.

Way to go SWR. Awesome support and customer service. That is one heck of a great thing to do, especially for owners of the non-HD Octane's like me.

Sweet.

Now, when I eventually get my Octane that I paid for in July, I'll be able to box it up and send it away again.

Don't think I'll be able to resist shooting it just a bit first.

Can you give us a link to the thread?

Halfway down the thread. 3-lug and fixed barrel adapters are compatible with old and new models and can does NOT need to be unfired to qualify.

To play Devil's Advocate...and what of those who paid the extra $100 for the HD? Is this going to be a case of "Thanks for the $100, you shoulda just bought the standard version?" I'm thinking that may leave a sour taste in some folks' mouths. Kinda sucks to have a can that is obsolete before the Form 4 even clears. Finding out you've been hoodwinked out of $100 only adds to the eyebrow raising.

So.... they should charge the standard Octane buyers $50 (the difference between the MSRP of the standard Octane and the NEW HD) so the people that bought original HD's feel better?

To me, it's pretty much the same thing that happens with ANY new product that comes out that early adopters buy. They often pay a higher price, or don't get the refined product, but that's the choice they make and the risk they take. When the TiRant came out, it was higher priced than it is now. Those that bought it right away paid the higher price. (IIRC, AAC DID give some refunds if you bought at the old price close to the time of the price drop)

"Hoodwinked"?  For getting back a  LIGHTER, QUIETER   HD  with a stay clean tube?  "Hoodwinked"?

I don't think anyone that ACTUALLY OWNS an Octane 9 HD is going to bitch.  Other companies CHARGE for upgrades while SWR is going beyond doing the right thing and is taking the real hit here.

Not necessarily, but maybe people sending in an HD should be offered a free LCD, adapter or something else to offset the inequality factor. IIRC, the price difference through Bryon at Major Malfunction was $100.

If you buy a Ford F150 and pay a premium for leather seats up front, and then Ford comes a long after you bought one of the first models off the line and says "We're replacing all cloth seats free of charge" then yes, you would have some basis to raise your eyebrows.

It's obsolete because there is already a new and improved model, and those of us with one of the first batch that is still pending will be taking delivery of an outdated can that needs to be sent in to be updated to current specs. The risk of NOT doing the upgrade is that if one decides to get a new adapter or LCD for the can two years down the road, they may be up shit's creek with a roll of TP for a paddle.

You don't seem to get it. Paying a premium up front for a feature that becomes standard before you even take delivery of the item isn't always hokey dorey. Likewise, contrary to popular belief, every action in the firearms industry does not fall into the Candyland realm of butterscotch rivers and peppermint trees. Oh, and for your information, I purchased one of the very first HDs, and if you want to call this "bitching" then so be it. That's very easy to do when it isn't your money.

Henry, I appreciate what you do and I appreciate your posture on all the boards in which I've seen you engaging your customers. However, I think this program might need some rethinking on behalf of the customer's perspective. I may send my can in for an update, or I may not. I understand good and well that there are a lot of risks with new products and Title II items in general, but in this case the customers who paid a premium for an HD will wind up with the same exact product as someone who paid $100 less for their can. It's not a matter of jealousy or anything like that; rather a matter of investment vs. end result/product. Maybe that matters to you guys at Silencerco/SWR or maybe it doesn't. I simply think it is worthy of your company's review and further consideration.

Customer feedback is a valuable thing. I appreciate that you took the time to post to let us know there is an issue.

I think the majority of Octane owners will be very happy with this program. Keeping you happy with the product, service, and overall experience is in our best interests. If you are not happy, please let me or someone else at SWR know when you send in your Octane. We will make it right to your satisfaction.

What would make you happy?  Are you in the market for another can?  If you buy an SWR/SCo product I will make up the $100 for you.  Shoot me a PM.

Henry, I think that this is awesome of you guys.  You very rarely see anything like this.  The Octane and Octane HD (original) are great cans.  They are not obselete by any means.  Just because a new body style came out does not mean that the older body style sucks.

So if I am reading this right.  I will have to send my original octane 9hd in if I want to get the piston mounts for it.  I bought mine through my dealer in June, he ordered it through the major.  My dealer finally received it in August and I have been waiting for the atf ever since.  So my Octane HD that I haven't even taken possesion of yet can be renewed to take the ospreys thread mounts?  Does the baffle stack change any, or is the only benefit of the upgrade since I would have the HD model anyway be the metric thread adapters?  I have also been on SWR's update email list for a little while now and I have not recieved this email for the update program.

I really just wish that the ATF would get off it's haunches and send me my stamp already. Jeez 5.5 month's is ridiculous.

Looks like you have a bad case  of PP envy .

You CAN buy a Ford truck with leather cheaper these days,
You can buy the same house and land MUCH cheaper than a few years ago.
Electronics get better and cheaper every day.
Do you often bitch every time someone finds a better deal than you on the same product?
Your AR15 is worth  less these days should you call and get a $50 kick back?

The new AAC Element is cheaper and and improved while people are pending. ( as well as other brands.) And the end cap is not compatible . (Feel lucky your is.)

I suspect we paid for an Omega baffle patent and Henry is now FREE of that AND has new machinery and backing to offer a better price and product. ( I know,  progress sucks and this is not fair to you. )
You say you where one of the first to buy one, who cares! I bet I had mine before you.
Where you happy when you bought it? ALLRIGHTY THEN. Why do you want a lolly pop now?

You say you may or may not send yours in. LOL! Again DUH!

I hate when someone (like Henry) goes above and beyond and does a good thing only to have someone bitch and moan about whats happening *TODAY*.

Henry, you gave enough don't give this guy your left nut.

The tube is the only commonality between the previous Octane/ Octane HD and the new Octane HD. The baffles, booster assembly, muzzle cap, piston, spring will all be replaced. It is a brand new suppressor that shares a tube with the original Octane.
The new HD features an all 17-4 stainless core and is nearly as light as the all aluminum core in the original Octane, and the Click Together Assembly baffles make it easy to break apart and clean. The performance is essentially better in every way.

I am an (almost) owner of an Octane 9 HD.  At no point did I, even for a moment, think this was any kind of bad deal for me.

SWR is being nothing but cool in this situation, IMHO.

Now, that said, I'm still really pissed at my current situation, not at SWR, but at the fucking ATF because I dont even have my can yet.

So would everyone who's upset be happier if SWR charged money for the upgrade? How would that benefit you at all? At least this way, someone's happy. I can't believe how selfish some people are. Because you think you got overcharged, you believe everyone else should have to pay what you paid? I give SWR props for good customer service and trying to do the right thing.

For the record.  I am in no way offended that this offer has been made.  And I plan on sending mine in after I atleast put a handful of rounds through it once the ATF does their part.  Thanks for the sweet deal SWR.

And one question though.  How long does it take to do the upgrade from mailbox to mailbox?  Anyone have any idea?

hey, SWR is doing something that I have not seen any other company do with offering this free upgrade. They could have just rolled out a new 9mm can and named it something else and let you keep your "obsolete" can but they are going above and beyond by upgrading it for free.

I bet you also complain when you order something from LaRue and the only swag you got was bumper stickers? or the hat was a color that you already have?
