I had the Winchester Garand out for hand load testing over the weekend. Figured I’d get all the other WW2 long guns out while I had that safe open. Here’s the Winchester (along with my Remington Rand):  It’s a 1943 production Danish return with a ‘57 VAR barrel. As far as I can see the only Winchester part is the receiver. Other than the barrel, everything else is Springfield. It shoots very well, but the finish is pretty warn. It came with an older Turner sling. My ‘43 Springfield:  It’s obviously been to an arsenal for a rebuild. It’s got pretty much all SA parts except for a few WRA’s in the trigger pack. Barrel is a ‘53 Springfield. I did put a new Turner sling on it because I like them.  Finally, my ‘03 Remington and an Underwood carbine:  I haven’t shot the Remington yet. I need to fix that. The Springfield and Underwood haven’t been to the range in years. I have a bad case of the “wants” for one of those Mk1 Navy 308 Garands. Planning on making a CMP North store pilgrimage later this year. I’m about 2.5 hours away….. |
