Would y'all have any hesitation about putting small electronics inside a gun safe and keeping them plugged into AC power?  I'm sure they will put off heat and pose some sort of fire risk, which are the main concerns I'd have.  Thinking about a police radio in its charger and one or two network hard drives.

no. a lot of people put a golden rod in their safe. that is basically a heating element to reduce moisture. i dont think a radio would produce enough heat to pose a danger

I have a golden rod in my safe, I think for about 10 years now. I've seen people put a power strip in their safes to run lights, golden rods and other small electronics.

depends on what your max temp will be in the safe and also what are the specs on the electronics you place in safe. If your max temp meets the specs on your electronic devices, you are fine. Basically, take temp reading during hottest period and look at your owners manual.

I plan on having similar equipment. The safe is in the basement and will generally be in a cool environment. The electronics should keep the interior of my non insulated safe just a few degrees higher than the surrounding room temp.

I plan to do the same when i get a Sturdy safe.  I plan to put my network drive in there to protect it from theft and/or fire.

Heat kills electronics.  If there is no fan/vent, life expectancy will be diminished if temps get over 100F. This may not be possible in a safe, but it depends on how much heat your device creates.  I have a fan cooled DVR on my camera security system.  There is no way I could put it in my safe.

thats too much heat in a confined "insulated" space. one or the other maybe.
definately not both.

Thanks for the info.  I'll test it out with a thermometer.  I have no idea how much heat the Motorola radio charger puts off.  Would be nice if it eliminated the need for a dehumidifier though.

Depends on the heat. I've been using a USB drive in the safe for over a year. No issues.
