I've been looking to purchase a suppressor to do double duty for a couple of guns.

Here's what I've been thinking. I have an AR-10 and a couple of AR-15's.  So the plan was to purchase the YHM Phantom 762 can for my Armalite and the 556 phantom adapter for my 15's. and use it double duty for an indeterminate time with the eventual plan of getting the 556 can.

But looking at the Surefire website I today I notice a substantial weight difference between the phantom 762 and the surefire FA762S (25 oz to 19 oz.) Now the weight won't mean much on the Armalite.  But on my SBR 15 it will.

Now, what might be the deal breaker for the Surefire can and my question to the Hive mind. If my 556 barrel has the right thread pattern and pitch for the AR-10 mount for the surefire can, is there any reason I could not use a 30 cal FH/MB/Comp on my AR15?

Thanks for reading and any help you can provide.

Chris

- A can for a 7.62 will (obviously) have larger holes than a 5.56 can allowing more gas to escape around the bullet and making the suppressor less effective.  The same thing applies to FHs and MBs.

- The 7.62 cans tend to be larger and heavier than the 5.56 cans and you already said you didn't want one too heavy on your SBR.

- Have you included price in your consideration?

- Since 7.62 and 5.56 generally use different threading at the muzzles you'd have to have the 5.56 muzzle cut and rethreaded.

i bought a YHM .308 can from Steve from Adco, and hae not got it yet But i bought it to use on my AR10, Savage 10fp, And then they will go on the .223 QD Fh so it will also go on my three .223 ARs, and maybe even a AK.   6oz isn't allot to me, and i won't be taken it on any recon missions.   but i was a little worried about it being less effective on a .223, i figure its better than nothing!

From my understanding, a .308 can will be about 90-95% as effective as a dedicated .223/5.56 can.  The reasoning is (from a Gemtech CS rep) the exit hole in the .308 suppressor endcap is bigger, but the size and volume of the .308 can is also quite a bit bigger making it very effective in suppression of .223/5.56.

I shot my new QD HVT quite a bit yesterday and today and I LOVE it.  I tried to order a Gemtech G5 mount so I could use the suppressor for dual duty on my AR's, but I can't find it in stock.  I guess I'll be calling Gemtech on monday for the mount.

I'll report back once I finally get the G5 mount and get some use out of the suppressor on the AR's.  IMO, I personally feel that the .308 can will do a great job on the AR's and I can't wait!

IIRC, some companies have the QD flash hiders set up so that you can use their 7.62 suppressor on the 5.56 fh, but not the other way around. For example, you could use the company's 5.56 fh on your 5.56 AR, but still run the 7.62 can on it. Thus you would not need to change the thread pattern on your rifle.

Gemtech for sure.  The G5 mount will work with the HVT, but the HVT mount will not work with a G5 suppressor.  I too believe a couple others out there are the same way.

I think AAC and YHM have the same compatibility setup with their qd lines
